They are peace officers with limited peace officer powers... they fall under HR 218

Depends on the Agency. According to the Attorney General, the penal code has always allowed probation officers to CCW; this was laid to rest years ago, however some counties do not allow it while on duty and have policy against it off duty, i.e LA county; what a surprise. I have heard that LA county does have armed details but not the entire dept. The penal code covers them and they cannot be prosecuted but if dept. has policy against it, they are open to a lot of liability. Personally, I cannot imagine being a probation officer and not be armed because every single probationer is a felon and has already demonstrated to be violent.

Parole and Probation are different...

Parole belongs to the "California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation" Thanks to the governator....

As state employees, they fall under a different section of the penal code... Probation is under 830.5...and is a county entity... all peace officers have to complete the PC 832 firearms portion in order to be armed... Kern County technically arms all of the Probation officers in that they make all officers pace 832 firearms... however as a function of assignment we only have about 125 armed as of today... we start another armed class in the morning and I think we will be arming about 10 more! Shame on LA!

Parole is ... dang I forgot again... and they get paid an average of about $40,000 per year more than I do too....

Sorry about that, I misread the thread. I was thinking probation. Yes parole can CCW in all 50 States and are peace officers in California.
