Default Open Carry

What are the provisions of open carry in California

I have heard several times that it is legal to open carry an unloaded firearm, and that in counties with less then 200k its legal to open carry a loaded firearm(aside from national parks)

I would like to know if anyknow knows where to go to get material to backup the legality of such things should one ever run into a friendly forest service ranger/local officer

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure you'll find much information here regarding open carry. As the name of the forum states, this is California CCW (as in concealed)

This subforum describes "Legal" as being the discussion of, "....legal issues of California CCW" Again, as in concealed.

As there are many forums for other subject matters related to firearms, there are other forums out there for discussion of open carry methodology, philosophy, and legal aspects. I would respectfully suggest you look elsewhere for this information, as we tend to focus on CCW here.

OTOH, we stand ready to engage in any and all discussion related to CCW. We hope you can make contributions to this aspect of firearms ownership and possibly learn something from the wealth of knowledge represented here.

I appriciate that

I went into the sheriffs department in Orange and the guy at the front desk didn't give me an encouraging welcome.

I am concerned with rumors that once you get rejected you pretty much always will be rejected, which is why i entertain this idea. In addition while backpacking I do carry open/loaded (noone has ever said a word about it)

Just want to have some documents should i ever be questioned

Orange County is the 2nd most issuing county in the state. If you have a GOOD cause, you will get approved. Look at the FAQ's, they should help.

I think that covers this subject. Case Closed.
