Can i conceal carry in my apartment complex?

I live in a big apartment complex, fenced up and you need a key, a keycode or a remote gate opener. Thing is, i can't go get my mail with out running into potential trouble. Seems we got some gangmembers who hang out, in the property. My question is, can i carry concealed in my own apartment complex, that means outside of my door? I don't plan on walking armed always, just to go get my mail in the 1st floor (i live on the 3rd).Still trying to work the nerve up to go apply for a ccw here in cali, so is it legal to carry within the perimeters of my apartment complex? It's unfortunate that many of us live where it's unsafe to even check the mail. Consider getting a P.O. box to have all your mail go there. Your other option is to carry a legal knife and/or pepper spray. Or, you can join the gang for protection (kidding).
