Question Questions about permit restrictions

I just picked up my permit today, and at the bottom, it says "Limited to activities associated with work."

So... that seems to be a huge restriction that limits my carrying to Bakersfield only and rules out many places even in town (church, visiting family, etc). I was wanting to carry all the time, so I'm a little disappointed by this restriction.

I was wondering what this means legally. If I was involved in an incident and went to court, would I have to prove that I was doing something work related? And what would it take to prove that I was doing something work related? I am self employed and doing computer work (repairs, installations, networking, etc.). It seems like it could get messy easily, so it makes me hesitant to carry unless I'm doing something obviously work related like dropping off a computer. What if I'm working at home for the day and go out for a lunch break... does that count?

I would rather not mess with all the questions and just find out how to get the restriction removed, if possible. I wasn't aware of it until I actually picked up the permit. Could I write a letter to the sheriff and ask to get it removed? Has anybody had experience with this or know the best way to go about it?

Sounds to me like it would be subjective so a clarification might be nice. Especially since you own your own business and are basically "working" all the time.... if it's not physical work, it's business development right? You always have cards with you... you are always looking for new clients right?

So.... you could ask for clarification, or just be prepared to defend your reasoning for carrying if the need should arrise.

You probably used your self employment as your GC so they limited it to carry while working. Carry your tools and or business items with you at all times so you are prepared for on call work. Being in computer repair you must travel to clients homes or offices and may accept jobs over the cell phone so you may be on call close to 24/7.

After you are ready to change or add a gun or renew see if you can get the restriction removed. You could even enhance your GC to include self defense, or something else that would help remove the restriction.

My recommendation to those I speak with who are considering getting a CCW is to try and formulate an appropriate good cause that does not involve your employment, self or otherwise for this very reason.
This situation is unfortunate but may be remedied. There are numerous members on this forum who have a CCW from Bakersfield and it is my understanding that the local sheriff is quite reasonable in his issuance policy. Perhaps an appeal after careful consideration of your good cause statement?

Is the restriction just a Kern County thing? Do any other counties have such restrictions?

Ok...
This is a bit weird...
The Sheriff put restrictions on the permit... or the BPD?
The bpd is famous for that... not the sheriff... I have in fact only seen one other...and I've seen alot of permits...like alot alot...
was work your sole basis for the permit? That's what it sounds like... please PM me re this as I am curious and I do know someone who might be very interested... the Sheriff does come up for re-election next year....

You are lucky to have it for work. Those of us that are retired in Orange County have can't get one unless we have been attacked or about to be attacked. Maybe Hutchens is rubbing off on your sheriff.
