I forsee a lawsuit on this one. Restriction of interstate trade. Of course, that will be after we get incorporation next summer from the Supreme Court.

Governor Signs AB962 Restricting Ammunition
Monday, 12 October 2009 04:34 | Author: GND Staff |
AB962, the bill that would restrict ammunition sales in California was signed this past evening by Governor Schwarzennegger. His comments are below:

"To the Members of the California State Assembly: I am signing Assembly Bill 962.

This measure would require vendors of handgun ammunition to keep a log of information on handgun ammunition sales, store ammunition in a safe and secure manner, and require the face to-face transfer of ammunition sales.

Although I have previously vetoed legislation similar to this measure, local governments have demonstrated that requiring ammunition vendors to keep records on ammunition sales improves public safety. These records have allowed law enforcement to arrest and prosecute persons who have no business possessing firearms and ammunition: gang members, violent parolees, second and third strikers, and even people previously serving time in state prison for murder.

Utilized properly, this type of information is invaluable for keeping communities safe and preventing dangerous felons from committing crimes with firearms.

Moreover, this type of record keeping is no more intrusive for law abiding citizens than similar laws governing pawnshops or the sale of cold medicine. Unfortunately, even the most successful
local program is flawed; without a statewide law, felons can easily skirt the record keeping requirements of one city by visiting another. Assembly Bill 962 will fix this problem by
mandating that all ammunition vendors in the state keep records on ammunition sales.

As Governor, I have sought the appropriate balance between public safety and the right to keep and bear arms. I have signed important public safety measures to regulate the sale and transfer of .50 caliber rifles, instituted the California Firearms License Check program, and promoted the use of microstamping technology in handguns. I have also vetoed many pieces of legislation that sought to place unreasonable restrictions and burdens on firearms dealers and ammunition vendors.

Assembly Bill 962 reasonably regulates access to ammunition and improves public safety without placing undue burdens on consumers. For these reasons, I am pleased to sign this bill."

Thanks guys for those who compromised and voted for this RINO!
Think very carefully before you compromise on a vote again.

Looks like internet sales is going to go nuts and raise prices.

AND looks like a munbor of us will drive OUT of state for what we need now, at least those of us who don't move out of this nanny state. We need a new state gov't! We really do! And a class action lawsuit against all politicians who created this mess. I am definitely going to vote to get these yo-yos OUT of Sacramento.

Oh... And don't worry about fingerprinting... Ammo isn't available anyway. The real pisser here is the Internet sales. Dies this effect reloading components?

IIRC, YES is does affect reloading supplies. And I reload obsolete calibers you simply cannot buy.

GRRRRR!!! We need a new state government. Now I have lots more incentive to move out of this sorry state called California. I am going to find an out of state job and move.

I kind of have my doubts that the NRA is going to make a difference on this. Anyone else feel the same as I do?

I stayed up until 3:00 am waiting.....by that time it was obvious to me.
All the other vetoes had been announced with a lot of fanfare. Silence in reference to AB962.
What now? Expect ammo prices to escalate out of sight.
Reloading might be a necessary thing to be able to continue doing what we do.
Reloading component prices will go up.
Ammo will be even more scarce than now.
The fear factor will multiply, some people will be bouncing off the walls.
Eventually this will be one of the factors that will create a tipping effect, creating a backlash that will unravel all this nonsense.
Mr. De Leon must be celebrating this morning, when in effect He will have sealed his political career after it is proven that his law turns out to be ineffectual in stopping gang bangers from illegally getting all kinds of weapons and ammo. They will become more organized and will have a supply line from neighboring states by solidifying ties amongst themselves. The average citizen will be shopping for ammo in adjacent states looking for better ammo retail prices, while hating the inconvenience of residing in this state and cursing its politicians. The law enforcement community might become more isolated from the average citizen.
And so the average citizen will be criminalized as they take creative counter measures to adapt.
The anti gunners will be emboldened and press for further attacks.

That is what I think.

Do we have ANY PROOF of this happening. I'm calling BS on this one. Which reminds me, does anyone out there know how to tell when a politician is lying........

Well say bye bye to Wal-Mart selling ammo in California. (I bet shotgun and rifle ammo too) Even if this gets overturned in court I doubt they will restart ammo sells.

I spent and had a wonderful weekend in Austin, Texas. This pushes me sooooo close to moving. Exploration committee is out on that one. (our fiscal mess also a huge factor and soon to be MORE out of control state taxes)

Arnold is a complete failure! I guess he figures he is on the shiat list of the Republicans already so might as well kiss some Democrat arse so he can try to get elected in some other fashion.

He vetoed the last bill of this kind because of the Internet sales component in it! (Interstate Commerce) WELL THIS BILL HAS THE SAME COMPONENT. Since he does not have line item veto power he should have at least vetoed this law on that component alone and made them have to send a new bill up.

Arnold = Major Fail

Do we even have to wait for incorporation on this? Seems like restriction of interstate trade is a non related issue altogether.
