Default Question about Oregon (yeah I know this is not ORCCW)

I'll be traveling on occasion to Oregon.

I've been reading up on firearms laws there. Their laws are better than ours, but they seem to be trying to catch up. :-/

Regarding "car carry"

IN OREGON: It appears, after reading numerous guides, that I can keep an unloaded pistol in the glove compartment (IN OREGON), and keep loaded mags in my pocket or some other compartment, and that this will be legal nearly everywhere IN OREGON.

Also, except in a few large municipalities, I can open carry in a vehicle.

I do not intend to get an OR CHW unless I find myself traveling there more regularly.

Also, though I CAN open carry in the car in many places. I do not intend to do so. I'm content to keep it simple with the glovebox approach.

Do any of you frequent Oregon enough to be familiar with the gun laws there?

Any other thoughts?

Thank you.

Default Oops, sorry.

I read another thread on this topic. I should've checked first. Apparently, the question is a little bit too "Open Carry" to be asked here...

However, I asked on CalCCW... BECAUSE it is a CCW site. I chose not to ask the question on an open-carry site because CCWers, perhaps a bit more often than OCers, are not trying to "push envelopes"... I just want to travel as safely as I can without running irritating a LEO.

That being said, I, for the most part, appreciate what the OCers are doing and what they stand for... But that doesn't fit me.

On account of those points, I still feel that CalCCW was the best place for me to post the question.

I expect that you will get more folks asking OC questions here because they respect the tone and expertise... Especially if they already have a rapport here because they are CCL In CA.

I for one, am extremely grateful for the expertise and friendliness here. This site and its members and administrators are doing a great public service here.

Thank you.

I haven't been to Oregon in a while... that being said, you won't find too much of Open Carry of firearms there. The people up there have Shall Issue CCW... Now as long as you're following Oregon Laws up there (check each county too) you should be fine. Just to cover your backside for those times you might go to a city where Open Carry is prohibited, get the CCW.

Good luck, stay safe, and stay legal.

A little googling will get you some answers, I think. What you have described might be true or not. Try "Oregon gun forum" or something similar on google.

Glad you said UNLOADED or else this could be you....

It looks like the same question pops up from time to time among the Oregonian locals (so you're not alone):
Car Carry - Oregon Concealed Carry

I recommend you do what some of us here did - go apply for and get the Oregon non-resident permit.

It's worth the peace of mind.

I prefer to be one of the first two kind and to learn from others' mistakes.

I agree.

The process is quite easy and inexpensive.

Here is a link that may be of help, http://www.calccw.com/Forums/general...tml#post137681.

As Tom98915 said, "It's worth the peace of mind".

Thanks,
