Then the fun begins . . . . . . The CCW holder happens to be a surgeon at LBMMC, saves the Chief of Long Beach PD sons life after he shoots himself in the butt at the range. The Doc calls the Chief. The Doctor gets a written letter of apology from the officer and the CCW was reissued. Would you like the names of those involved. Cobb knows the whole story.

If a police officer is literally grabbing people out of the blue I would assume that it crosses illegal search and seizure laws. I'm assuming there was more to this story however.

My guess is that the OCSD has zero tolerance for screw ups. If someone lets their gun show once, they may let it happen again. The issuing agency would rather yank the permit than have someone out there carrying who's not careful or will screw up some how.

In a very general sense, it certainly seems that the "big city" cops are of a different mindset than those in rural areas. Things are a great deal more relaxed away from So. Cal.
Heck, a Fresno cop laughed recently telling me about having to constantly tell cab drivers to keep their guns out of sight...and that's without permits. They know the cabbies have a tough job and are frequent targets and they happily look the other way when they carry. Doubt an O.C. or L.A. cop would do the same. A good guy that has jumped through the hoops to get the permit is the last thing on these cops' minds. They tend to consider us comrades and would never jack us up for some slip-up unless it was something overtly criminal. My Hawaiian shirt getting caught on my grip wouldn't cause a stir with these guys. |

Yes their is more to the Story, I left it out to protect the guilty. I will say the cop was off duty but ID himself verbally ONLY! No Badge, No ID.

I can see how the doctor got an apology...

Don't offer an explanation unless pressed. If really pressed after a gust of wind or similar exposure I would calmly say, "don't get excited, I have a permit". |

Exactly! And if they ask you about it, just say it's your cell phone, Leatherman, or whatever else you would keep on your waistband.
