Default Does anyone use a fanny pack anymore?

I'm curious if anyone still uses a fanny pack (either a dedicated gun-fanny or a discreet non-gun fanny pack)? I've see quite a few of these over the years, but they're all non-gun fanny packs (the ones with the pull tab) and there's no way of knowing if they have a weapon in them or not. Guess that makes them concealed!

Some people say that a fanny pack is...shall we say...out of vogue and that the only people using one nowadays are carring a weapon in them.

They work well with some kinds of clothing. If you're in an area that has a lot of tourists, and you are dressed like a tourist otherwise, and your fanny pack isn't black and "tactical" it can blend in without anyone giving a second look.

Mommies with kids can wear them without looking out of place, too. It depends on the situation.

I use one when I'm tooling around in a wheelchair because it's the easiest way for me to carry concealed.

I bought an Uncle Mike's fanny pack when I was having back issues and it just looks like the 70's leather and all. Then bought a TommyPack, nylon and not near as bad, also good for around the boat or at the beach. Allot less money too.

I do some photo work in Vegas at a convention every summer and spend a lot of time sitting on the floor. Half the people there have fanny packs, it works great. And I don't have to worry about being compromised.

Honestly, I think it only screams 'gun' to other gun people.

I have one, I use it for certain places, like camping, or other activities where i might have my hands full. I don't always use it to carry a gun, though I have sometimes done that. I often wear a specialized fanny pack when doing serious photographic work.

It does tend to scream "dork" if worn out of place though. Mine has a nice sierra club patch on it, so it screams "hippie liberal"

I wear mine when I go Mt. biking...and sometimes when we go on quad rides on the dirt roads. I have a Desantis gun pouch which is similar, but attaches via your belt....which I use when riding motorcycles on the street.

People notice, and it's not just "gun people" who know or suspect. I've had non-gun people come up and ask me if I was packing in it.

I know a guy who was wearing his concealed carry fanny pack with his dockers, button up, and blazer.

If it was screaming any louder it would have gone hoarse.

I Wholy agree with both statements!!! Whenever in a gun shop and someone walks in with a pack, I take notice.

Exactly. If it screams anything, it screams "tourist."

Yep, only other gun people grin and nod their heads, convinced it is a CCW, well so what? The average person has no clue, they just think you are a fashion disaster, who cares, its not exposed.

The few times I wear a fanny-pack, it's because I'm in need of carrying a first-aid kit or it's obvious that I have a need of a pocket and my clothing does not have any. It would not look too out of place then. Most of the time, if you were to see me wearing one, there's no mistaking that pack for what it is... a medical kit. When I last worked on an ambulance, it absolutely looked like it was part of my gear.

I tend to agree that with most of the population, it screams dork. When I need to use one, it's mostly hung over my shoulder.

To each his own.
