I agree most people are unaware . . . its the people who know what to look for that are considered "undesirables" that I think about. People who carry a weapon always tend to watch for others that may be similarly equipped.

Post Desantis Holsters

Talking with law enforcement officers I have as patients and those I see at the gun range, they tell me fanny packs are instant give aways as to carrying a gun.

I have a Bersa .380 that I use a cheap Uncle Mikes and do not like it.
I just bought my Glock 27 and purchased a Desantis Thumb Release and absolutely love it! High riding, conforms to your side and easy to use.
I researched high and far and still keep coming up with Desantis for the best carry/conceal.

Hmm, no LEO has approached me on it...yet.

I don't think the issue is what the fanny pack screams, just that it does scream. Gun people, LEOs, and normal people will all notice a person with a fanny pack. Personally, I don't want to draw attention to myself, regardless of whether they think I'm a tourist or packing, either way someone is noticing you.

For several years I used a fanny pack. Only once was I ever questioned about what was in it. Never got the evil eye from a Deputy/Officer or security guard. The one and only time was an off-duty SBPD who knew darn good and well what was in the bag cause he had the same bag.
We both purchased them from the PD association. He was just curious what I had that fit better then what he had bulging in his bag

People with fanny packs are noticed all the time. What happens is to keep them on the radar while they are within the immediate area. They are not approached to inquire what is in their packs. They walk around oblivious not realizing that they have been mentally noted as a potential complication. Just because someone does not tell you that they suspect does not mean that they don't. We see a fanny pack on someone who is not riding a bike, jogging or carrying an infant . . . .

Pay attention to the gangsters, especially those who have done hard time. They watch you like a hawk if your wearing a gun pack. If you're not at a tourist attraction, be careful about being made by bad guys. They may turn you into a victim especially if they think you're an off duty cop.
Don't worry about the good guys. Like hygyliac said, they will just make a mental note, nothing more.

made or not - I'll still wear one when it is the best option. Can't see inside and its no body's business to get a look inside.
I've even had one on with all sorts of other crap in it while the business tool in on my hip. No matter how fast the zipper, getting it off the hip is oh so much faster - not to mention turning bit sidways covers 95% of the action until presentation.
The bank tellers have actually appeard to let down and relaxed on busy days when I walk in with the pack. Never have put it on my fanny though. Does anyone do that?

G30 Steve is right.

Not only will they watch you like a hawk, they will also pay attention to how you carry yourself, how you approach people, where you keep your hands, how you position your body when addressing others, and how attentive you are to your surroundings.

It is not uncommon for recently released guests of the state or county to visit a local casino or other venue where a lot of people with expendable income congregate.

Even if you are not carrying a fanny pack, they will be looking for the same behaviors they looked for in Jail or Prison in determining if you are a potential threat to them.

As a Tribal Gaming Agent I see this regularly in casinos. We even use surviellance video of them watching us when training new Security Officers and Gaming Agents.

I have never worked corrections, but I have to believe this behavior is one of the keys to surviving in Prison or Jail.

Thanks,

Default Fanny Pack

Howdy Folks:

The 4th of July weekend (July 3-6, 08) I put 852 miles (San Luis Obispo area-live in Orange County) on my Harley's (01 Heritage Softail) odometer wearing a Tommygun fanny pack. Most of the time it was warm enough to only ride with a long sleeve shirt/jeans etc. My fanny pack didn't scream gun since there's a Harley-Davidson patch sewn on it plus I don't wear my Wilderness Instructors belt either, another gun give-a-way! I was "just" a Harley guy with a Harley fanny pack and his girlfriend enjoying the Central Coast of CA.

Oh before I forget, most retailers who sell Wilderness belts carry even sizes ie 32,34,36 etc. When I visited Turners in Orange, CA (Southern CA) the 34 was just a wee bit tight with an IWB holster. I needed 1 more inch but since Turners doesn't carry odd sizes I got on the phone with the Wilderness folks and ordered a 35" belt. It works great!

honestly guys/gals the fanny pack is irrelevant. Its the behavior your displaying. I go to south coast plaza, main place mall, and fashion island quite a bit for lunch and never have had a problem with anyone "making" me. And if they do.........whats the big deal? I have yet to hear of anyone, including CCW holders, having their gun snatched from them because they are carrying it in a fanny pack. I have carried one in a fanny pack now for 6 years and have never had a problem.

Just because you haven't heard about it or had it happen to you, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. And "what's the big deal if someone makes you?" Uh, does that one really need to be answered.

I hate to tell ya, but a fanny pack on a biker screams "gun" even louder to me.

I must look into this "wilderness belt"
