True, but better to carry where it's a bit inconvenient than not carry at all. Purses, ankle holsters, baggy clothes, and smaller guns aren't ideal, but they're better than nothing.

Wearing clothes a size or two too large so you can carry inside the waistband is something a guy can fix with a belt and look just fine. For a lady, clothing that is too large means it's baggy around the butt and thighs, and looks sloppy and obviously too big, especially if it's a suit.

Still probably an improvement over ankle or purse draw time in most cases. I often have to tuck shirts in over my IWB to look professional at work - that slows my draw down, but not near as much as having to grab the gun off my ankle would.

Whatever happened to dresses and holsters in garter belts? ok, ok, I know ... stay civil and on topic ... but since no one else mentioned it, I had to be the first.

Probably would be a challenge to conceal a full-size HK USP there, I'm guessing.

OK wise guys, my wife carries a full size 5" 1911, fully loaded it is close to 40 oz, if you can find a "garter" that will support that gun, + 2 spare mags on the other side, just speak up! Those girly guns in the movies are a waste of time, IMHO.

I never want to say "gee, I wish she had been carrying a bigger gun and more ammo"

Just my 2 cents.

It depends on your build. There is no way that I would be able to carry a larger gun without printing - based on my size. With the right outfit, I could pull off IWB with my Kimber Ultra Carry II but NO WAY would I ever be able to carry something with a double stack mag like ChrisG does his HK (as much as I LOVE that gun). Just one of those things......

Is that the gun you said that you shot better than he did?

Granted, but hip-huggers aren't the way to go either. I realize that women are built bigger in the hips than are men, so carrying IWB may be much more difficult for women. It seems to me therefore, that wearing low riding jeans would only exacerbate the problem (make the gun stick out even more).

I can't carry my HK in my waistband either. I LOVE that gun too. =) So, I carry that in my Coronado Leather purse (thanks for the idea and selling me the purse, FemaleInstructor), and my Seecamp .32 in a smartcarry. So far, I've been able to hide the smartcarry under dress pants or suits (pants or skirt) easily. I have discovered that snug, low rise jeans do not work well with the smartcarry.

I haven't found a holster that will work with my Glock 23 yet. I guess I could carry it in the purse, but I'm a better shot with the HK and it's full size, so why bother with the compact? It's a little lighter, but not by a ton, and I like that I can carry the HK cocked and locked. The lack of a manual safety makes me nervous about putting the Glock in a purse holster, which I know is probably irrational, but I've had my permit for less than a week, and I'm being overly cautious.

Pics will certainly help clarify this issue.
