Last August I herniated a disc in my lower back and when it acts up the weight of the OWB or IWB on my belt on a daily basis can be unbearable. I bought one of these and with a button down shirt I leave one button undone at the halfway point and wear as a cross draw. Very comfortable (as long as you have a t shirt on under your button down) worn 14 hours a day for a week at a time. Just a suggestion for any other CCW holders who have back issues. I had bought ankle holsters, pocket carry, fanny packs, shoulder rigs etc and unhappy with all of them as draw was so slow. I carry a 1911 on the weak side and two mags on my strongside.

My dad has had a bad hip for a few years. He has taken to wearing suspenders to take the weight off of his hips. His pockets are still full with nuts, screws, wallet, pliers etc .. The 2 1/2 inch suspenders do the trick if you don't mind looking like a lumberjack .... FYI - others think he is crazy. We prefer to call him eccentric.

I wear suspenders(another old guy)to take the weight off of my right hip. These are the best things in the world and if I had known about them(how good they are)I would have used them when I was young. They help conceal my gun with my IWB holster also by pulling the waist band of my trousers up higher. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. |

A friend who CCWs recently gave me that same bellyband as a gift. I've worn it a few times now and it really is very comfortable for long periods. I, too, wear it crossdraw as my normal carry is a shoulder holster and my muscles are already trained that way.

I just ordered the Galco version of the TommyPack, it looks a little nicer and has leather sewn in for the holster. I'll post once the verdict is in. The Tommy Pack has stood up well but some of the elastic in the holster area is sagging from the XD9 I carry in there.

It was good talking with you at the range. The Galco works nice with the S&W J Frame you bought ( I carry a 642 in it) and is easier to conceal with the lighter color. They run small in size so be careful when your order it. I have bought several holsters and the Galco from Police Equipment and Tactical Police Gear at CopsPlus their prices are hard to beat and shipping is fast when in stock. The TommyPack one (black only) is not as good a quality but holds a full size 1911 or a sub-compact and I've worn it on some 15 hours days, it's good for around school functions, church and social functions when a holster doesn't work. It's just a matter of leaving one button of your shirt undone and I wear it on a cross draw. John |
