Default Anyone use an OWB holster for CCW?

There are certain outside the waistband holsters that really hug closely to the body, Galco comes to mind. I was wondering if that's a no-no for CCW holders.

It's still concealable right? Wondering your thoughts on OWBs.

Thanks.

In the cooler months I sometimes do. I feel more comfortable with IWB.

Default owb

I carry a 3" Ruger GP 100 OWB with a Galco holster. It does pull the gun up tight against me and is very comfortable. The revolver is thick, weighs 2lbs and doesn't ride well IWB. It doesn't peak out under my shirt unless I am reaching high and it conceals pretty well under an untucked tshirt and untucked/unbuttoned over shirt. I am going to have to pick up a semi-auto and go IWB if I want to carry year round. The OWB is my preferred method of carry with what I have now.

Hmmm.... how shall I put this...it all depends on how much of a shed you have over the tools. Having seen Doc in person now he can confirm that I have few more shingles than he does. I can hide my 1911 in a owb holster easier than he can. The more lean your build the tougher it is to hide a gun. I have said it before, CCW includes a secondary hobby of holster collecting

Lee, it was great meeting you the other day! Thanks for your help with the XD!

I should have posted more details in my previous post. I have carried an HK USP45F in a Galco OWB holster on many occasions. Only when the weather has been cold though and I know that I will not be removing my jacket or over shirt.

Most times I have to carry IWB. Smaller frame guns fit better on me due to MY frame size.

I much prefer IWB, but sometimes (if my pants are feeling a bit tight ) I will use a Hume JIT for my little Kahr PM9. It holds tight and works well. I do find that I sometimes "clunk" it against something though...have to watch out for that.

I carry with an OWB almost every day in the winter time. It's the best way in my opinion, however if you are wearing less in the warmer months, IWB is the ticket.

I have a crossdraw pancake holster for my Sig P232 that works just fine under a baggy shirt.

I don't have a CA CCW yet, but I wear at home all the time.

I use the Bianchi Model 82 OWB.

82 *CarryLok™

It has retention, and the curved shape of the holster tends to make it blend nicely

I have also ordered the Don Hume Preferred Concealment Carry Holster
DonHume.com - Product Details

Will give more info when I've had a chance to try it out.

I have carried my SA Micro-compact in my Galco OWB for a year now and only been made once that I know of. That was when the wind blew my shirt up while pumping gas in Nevada. A young man saw it and we had eye contact, I adjusted my shirt like 'no big deal' and nothing was said. He must have assumed I was LEO.
