I'm looking for more carry options. Currently I have an IWB from Brigade gunleather and a no-name belt holster. The belt holster rides too low/exposes the holster and blocks my wallet, is a "uniiversal" type & "floppy" and uncomfortable so I'm going to replace it.
I'm thinking of buying a GOOD leather pancake or a Bianchi Carrylok or one of the accumold holsters (fobus etc). Leaning towards the Carrylok. Any bad problems I should be aware of? |

Currently I carry a S&W 6906 as my daily driver. It's light, small, accurate, and comforting. I am carrying it IWB in a Brigade MII but we all know that one holster doesn't fit all occasions.
I'll need something else to use when I'm wearing a suit (IF the VCSO ever gets around to processing my permit that is). I'll also need some way of carry for when it way hot and a coat won't do. I REFUSE to look like a castaway and wear my shirttail out. Not only does it look ugly but my clients won't appreciate a guy who looks like a bum masquerading as their lawyer. Right now I open carry almost everywhere so what I have is doing the job. What I'd like is a little variety. Seriously thinking on the carrylok but am unsure on the durability of the release system. |

Open carry in some parts of California is news to me. I am talking in the public, not on your own property. Now im curious, what counties or cities allow open carry in the public? i assume open carry, UNLOADED only Last edited by AMS MIKE : 01-07-2008 at 08:40 PM. |

...I meant he might do the same thing I do, and carry when out of state You can open carry in unencorporated areas where the county population is less than 200,000 (in a nutshell). Personally, I wouldn't do it, but other do, some successful, some not. try opencarry.org for more info Last edited by IAmASensFan : 01-07-2008 at 08:55 PM. |

In a nutshell because this is not within the scope of this site.... Open carry IS possible but it has it's hazzards. For me, I've been doing it for a couple of decades and know the rules of when, where, and how. There are distinct "areas" with separate "rules". INcorporated, Restricted, and UNincorportated. There are also sub "areas" like Primary place of business which make things even more interesting but I won't go into them. If you are in an INcorporated or Restricted area: You cannot carry a LOADED firearm. "Loaded" is a defined term and there is an appellate court decision in this area as well. You can ONLY carry OPENLY. ANYTHING which conceals the firearm results in concealed carry and that is illegal (without a permit) even if the firearm is unloaded. Your holster MUST BE a "belt" holster and openly visible. If you are in an UNincorporated area: You may carry your firearm loaded. It MUST BE openly visible It MUST BE in a "belt" holster IN ANY CASE: You CANNOT carry in restricted areas like school zones even openly. If you are in such a zone your firearm must be in a locked container or trunk. You cannot carry in the same areas that CCW is prohibited. You MUST BE aware that you WILL BE stopped by the police at some point. Most of the time this stop will NOT be "fun" for you. I have been stopped several times but never for a firearms check since most of the time I am in UNincorporated areas. You are required to submit to a firearms check to see if the weapon is unloaded when you are in those areas where it cannot be loaded. You MUST present identification when requested. And, I will say no more except to add that if you do not KNOW the rules, do not do this. If you do know the rules but cannot accept the EXTREMELY high risk of arrest, do not do this. For me, I'm in a high-risk line of work. My safety and my life are worth more than the risks associated with open carry. Thanks Sens for the info on the Carrylok.
