Being able to adjust cant in either direction it will lay the pistol almost horizontal in front of my left hip. If "dunlap" ever sets in I may be in trouble, but for now, it's a very comfortable carry for a full day of driving.

If my trip is short, I just keep whatever I'm carrying in my TT Gunleather IWB in whatever flavor I need.

Now does the blackhawk with your J frame tuck up nice and tight to your body. My fobus holster kicks the grip out an inch or so and prints real bad. I will only be able to use it with a long jacket. I am considering the Desantis 3 slot or the blackhawk as it can be used cross draw for the car and strong side when not.

No, so long as when you're NOT in the vehicle you unload and lock the weapon in a case.

In California, you can't keep a loaded OR unlocked gun in your unoccupied car at any time, permit or not.

You seriously drive with that like it is in the picture? Wow! Doesn't look like it would be very comfortable, what happens if you start to get a chub?

I've never heard one say keep your off the trigger. But I think it should be said.

ruh roh Reorge--I have been breaking the law then. I am guilty of assuming again. I assumed common sense that the gun is just as safe in a locked and safely parked vehicle as in a house. Either which one would be the same effort to steal one of them so there you have it. I am making the change now. I don't think ignorance will fly very far as an excuse when it comes to a deadly weapon.

thank you.

dwlatham, why would you put your finger on the trigger while drawing or holstering?

woody, yes it is very comfortable, try it unloaded (so you won't put your finger on the trigger). 4 o'clock IWB is pretty much worthless in the car, and a fanny pack is accessible, but slower.

I've been doing this for a long time, and it works for me.

I carry IWB at 4'oclock while driving with my 21sf just fine but it would suck to get it out quickly.

I often consider leaving my HK compact nearby while in the car and my understanding is you can carry all 3 guns on the permit but when I leave the car this might be an issue.

On the other hand I cant thing of very many situations that would warrant shooting someone while in your car when you could just mash the pedal and get away. I would be very concerned what this might look like to a jury panel who thinks I had the option of leaving but chose to shoot instead.

Still waiting for my CCW, but I would think that ankle carry would be a real good way to go while driving, easy to reach when sitting.

Depending on where the holster sits (10 or 11 o'clock depending on the pants and belt-loop placement) the grip can stick out a little, but sitting in the car (and that's what this thread is discussing) it doesn't print much. It's certainly not my first choice for concealed carry but works well for driving in a cross-draw position.

Just like anything else, a little planning can mitigate most issues, like making sure you aren't carrying anything in your left front pocket when the holster covers or restricts access.

I usually wear a XL shirt untucked so printing isn't much of a problem while sitting. Adjusting cover garment after setting/hooking seatbelt, it all but disappears.

Of course, YMMV, but it works pretty well for me.

How about a carjacking where you are boxed in from escape, front and rear?

Mash the pedal and get away is certainly a better option IMO, as long as it IS an option.

10-4. As soon as I finally get my permit I'll be trying what works best for me.

I think it's Rule #2?? Never point the gun at something you don't want to destroy, If you're at 11 to 1 o' clock thats pretty close to something I wouldn't want to destroy.

But whatever works, I might give it a shot.

I don't make this stuff up, I carried a 1911 from 1969 until the mid 90's with the carry clip, and have always carried J frames that way. The Glock is no different than a J frame. I stopped carrying and shooting 1911's after I bought a G19 in 92. Took a couple of years to transition.
