Carry Glocks are always chambered.

Nightstand 1911 is not chambered when the grandkids spend the night.

When they get old enough to cycle the old Colt I'll teach 'em how and when to handle and shoot it. Until then, we prefer a little extra margin of kid-safety on those rare occasions when the rugrats are running ammuck.

FWIW, I think this is sound thinking.... I used to keep my home defense gun the same way even though it was in a fast access safe. It was just another safety barrier should the kids ever find a way into the safe. It may not have made any difference since the safe keeps it away from the kiddo's but it made us feel better about their safety. I keep it loaded with one in the pipe today, but didn't always.

It seems like a situation at home might provide more opportunity to chamber a round than a situation that might be encountered in the street. I feel that CCW away from the house is a different animal completely than home defense.

I carry a Glock 26, always chambered. So far I have only unholstered it to unload for periodic cleaning or to prepare it for practice at the range.

I like this thinking and will probably change my HD gun appropriately. I will always carry with a round in the chamber, though.

Welcome btulare! You should introduce yourself with a new thread in the "new members" forum.

After the days of the Browning High Power.....
Always chambered!!
Glocks, why not? Do not put your finger inside the trigger guard, unless you are going to shoot, let alone on the trigger itself!

Actually, when the kids are around I switch platforms for another reason. Not to slow them down but more to slow me down and make me think about what I'm doing. I intentionally want to have to think about what just went bump in the night. When kids are around unexpected noises are all too common.

my kids were raised around guns... always a rifle in the corner unloaded from the time they were toddlers just to teach them to not touch and to de-mystify the thing... but when my daughter started crawling and such, I went from a 1911 .38 super to a beretta 92fs...safety on...kids know they are supposed to pull the trigger at a very early age and at least with the beretta the trigger will "pull" without the gun going off... that was the theory anyway and I carried that beretta for years until the youngest was like 4 or 5 yrs old... then back to glocks and 1911's.... just went back to the beretta for nostalga sake... and cause I got a cool crimson trace laser for it...and remember why I like shooting it so much...and I've killed stuff with it and I trust it and that just means it's back on my carry list...need to get an order in to tim for a new holster for it...

But...YMMV and I don't like to be critical of what you choose...your life = your choices...
If someone asks my opinion that's what they get... my opinion...but what works for me may not work for you...

Of course this all makes sense and I am not stupid that is why I asked to get feedback from those who claim to know what is what.
Thanks for everyones time and I hope all that responded understand why it was asked. Again training is training and I do it like my life depends on it. So on that note training will commense with one in the chamber.
I do understand my weapon choice as well but there is those out there with much more experience than I and this seems to be the place to get answers.

Thanks again.

You'll shoot your eye out kid.

Anyway I carried non chambered my first couple weeks with the Glock since it was new and I was not used to it yet. After a USPSA match and a couple other range sessions I trust it and now its always ready to rock. Comes home and lives in a Winchester E Safe so no more having to unchamber when I get home due to my 3yr old.
