Default Looking for advice on holster positioning

I am new to the forum and the possibility of carrying. I intend to get the Utah and Fla. permits in the very near future.

In browsing through the forum I have decided on TT leather for holstering needs. I spoke with Tim this afternoon and quickly learned that I don't know squat. He did allow me to get in line for an April delivery though even though I can't articulate what I want for sure. He definately wants you to be happy and comfortable with your purchase.

I know I want an IWB I have a Beretta PX4 storm 9mm and I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II on order. Not sure if I should go with the Mikes Special, Reinforced, or Slim.

Tim talked about where I want to carry on my body. 3 o'clock or 5 o'clock. He talked about one being more comfortable I thought he said between 3 or 4
He also stated the cant on the Mikes special may be awkward with the beretta.

Truthfully I was a little distracted and didn't have the best connection being at work. So a little help from this enlightened crew would be greatly appreciated. I am so confused now!

I prefer to carry OWB at about 4 o'clock. Most of the folks here like IWB. For me the 4 o'clock position seems to work the best for concealment and comfort.

I put mine in my pocket, because my butt is too big for 4 oclock and my gut too big for 2 oclock. Plus it doesnt show.

Sometimes I go owb at 2:45ish if I know it will stay covered....about 1% of the time.

I carry at 3-4 O'clock IWB almost always. I also prefer a holster that carries low in the waist band because the higher the handgun rides the more likely my spare tire will push the grip outward.

I believe the 4 o'clock is good for most people. Having said that, it all works according to body type, if you have a side spare tire, it might not be good.
Then again, have to work within the confines of your body type.
Buying the right kind of clothing style will help. You may have to change your dressing style all together.
Look in the mirror for printing.
Choose a summer gun, medium dress and winter dress. Seasons demand adaptation. You may end up with three different platforms that have some commonality. Do not mix a system with thumb/external safety and a platform that does not have external safety. Under stress you will forget to disengage the external safety.
Keep it one way, the same way, all the time! Above all, keep it simple!!

What holster do you wear? Is there any cant? I know the Mikes Special rides a bit lower and has some cant to it. I don't really have a lot of spare tire just a little bit. I do have a larger chest.

I know that most of my shirts are pretty roomy I think I will be ok in that regard. But I probably won't really know until I saddle up.

I have to carry at 2 o'clock (appendix carry). I am on the thin side (6' 2"-175#) and if I try to put it at 3-4 o'clock my belt digs into my support side. Also, the butt of the XD40 sticks out too much because my waist is too small and it prints with some of my clothes, which is why I got the Glock 27. I think that when the TTGunleather holsters arrive for the Glock, I will be able to pull off the 4 o'clock position. Until then, I will stick with the XD, it is sooooo much easier to fire.

I'm a lefty too! However I always shot right, and batted right. If I do the point test with both eyes open and then check with one eye to see which point is closer my right eye is the most correct.

I primarily use the Bianchi Professional 100 for my Glock
100 *Professional™
Attachment 305

I have used the Ace nylon extra mag holder with some success.
Extra Magazine Holster - Nylon - Ace Case
extra_mag_holsters-q.jpg

This year I added the Kahr CW9 to my permit and carry it in the Ace IWB leather.
In-The-Pants Holster - Leather - Ace Case
Attachment 307

None of these has a cant but they do allow for repositioning as needed. They sit a bit lower than some other holsters which allows for easier concealability and are fairly thin which provides comfort.

I did buy the Milt Sparks VM2 for my Glock but find it rides higher than I prefer. It does not allow for easy removal of the holster if you need to leave it behind. I probably need to waer it more and try to find the right position to make it comfortable.
Versa Max 2

Of course this is my opinion and as you will find out soon enough opinions are by no means in short supply around here.

I am thinking I will go with the TT leather Mike's Special for the Kimber but I am unsure of the Beretta PX4. It is full size and I am not sure the Mike's Special will work so well. I think I was told the cant on the special would make it difficult to draw a larger weapon. Could someone knowledgable comment?
