I think that is exactly what was happening when I had treated the holster with your basic silicone waterproofing spray for shoes. It may block water, but would still let the humidity through the suede.

To clarify, what I ended up using was a silicone caulk, which I rubbed into the exterior of the suede. It is kind of like I dipped the holster into some of that rubber tool dip, except that I could actually rub the silicone into the fibers and it shouldn't peel off.

You may be correct that the CLP may brake the silicone down eventually. Maybe I should have used that tool dip instead. OTOH, silicone gaskets seem to stand up to many solvents fairly well in automotive applications. We'll see.

For now, I haven't had a bit of evidence of corrosion starting like I did before applying the silicone coating. If I notice the silicone breaking down some day, I will be sure to get back here and mention it. Consider this a disclaimer for the time being. But, I'd rather have the holster take a dump six months down the road than have my revolver corrode a little more each day.

Thanks for the tip on this. I may have to give it a try.

This is just how I feel too. She's putting in her time, for sure.

5 months of carry and the silicone treatment is holding up fine. No problems with rust whatsoever since I treated this holster.

The bad thing for me is that the weight and/or bulk of the Lawman is causing (or seems to be) quite a problem with my lower back/hip. So, I got a S&W 438 for everyday pocket carry, but it's still in the 10-day holding pattern.

Milt Sparks VM-II and a solid belt. Back problem solved. 6 months wait, but half the price of a j-frame.

Thanks for the tip. It seems like the gun is pressing against some nerve in my buttocks, so I think IWB is out for me, at least as a regular carry method.

Yep, this worked for me too, VM-II and a good Milt Sparks belt-- I carry a 5" full size 1911, I apply some Hoppes gun oil when it needs it, and since it always stays warm, it does not pickup any rust. Leather "breathes" and will allow the moisture to evaporate, but bare steel should be coated with oil or grease to protect it.
