Red face Hoppes 9 Cleaner Smell

Okay guys, I think made a newbie mistake, and I need to know if this can be resolved. I clean my Kimber with Hoppes 9 cleaner. When I do this, I place the Hoppes 9 cleaner bottle and gun parts on a rag (I do not have a gun mat yet). After the gun is clean, that rag is soiled in places with Hoppes 9 cleaner from excess drips, ect.

Well, I ran that rag through the washing machine with all of our dark clothes and our clothes reak of Hoppes 9 cleaner after the wash--twice. We ran the washer twice and all of the clothes still reak of hoppes 9. Is there anyway to get that smell out of our clothes? The only problem I can think of is that we use this eco-friendly detergent crap that does not smell very strong.

And no, this is not a joke. However it is funny and sad for my clothes, but true. Thanks for the help and enjoy your funny story today at my expense.

A good dry cleaner can do it. Try to find one with certified techs. They are HARD to find, most dry cleaners hire anyone who walks in off the street, but the certified people actually know what they're doing and can work minor miracles.

It is ironic, though, that the only California program that certifies dry cleaning techs is under the California Department of Corrections. It's one of those "Circle of Life" things.

Clearly the detergent isn't taking out the solvent. A lot of the "eco-friendly" detergents don't do such a good job at fighting the petrochemical solvents, I find.

I'd run them through with a good strong full-power detergent like Tide or Cheer before I took them all to a dry cleaner, but that's a good fallback position.

Or, you could learn to really really like the smell of Hoppes.

Does Hoppes #9 have a distinctive smell? I use it myself and have never noticed a smell.

I feel for ya. I The first time I used it I was home alone and didn't realize what it would do in an enclosed area (500 sq ft living area) even with the windows open. When my wife returned home she asked me to start doing my cleaning outside. I STILL don't know what it smells like.

Just a long shot but try vinegar in the wash with a few items and see if that helps. Baking soda may even work.

Ya may want to not wash your cleaning rags with clothing in the future.

I WOULD wear hopps #9 as a cologne. It smells goooooood

Also, don't run rags that you've used solvent on thru your washing machine. I think it even says so in the instruction manual.

I've done the same thing. Wife was not impressed when all of our bath towels smelled like Hoppes.

Sorry don't know how to get the smell out other than with time and multiple washes.

I'm thinking the Powder Solvent may work better in a compact (to keep the nose from shining) or as a good base, as it may clog the atomizer...

Okay, the wife bought and used Tide and ran through the wash twice--no change. she is going to try vinegar and lots of Tide. We'll see what happens.

Approximately how many washes did it take for that smell to go away? Yeah, my wife is not a happy camper right now. Just another reason for her to hate guns.
