Default Excellent Riverside Gunsmith

I just had some work done on one of my 1911's by John Danforth, at Danforth Gunsmithing, at 7101 Jarupa in Riverside (951 343 7765).

I had him work on my Springfield Omega 10mm. He installed a new safety lever, and did some other work.

He did an excellent job, very reasonable pricing, and seems to have an excellent feel and appreciation for the 1911 platform.

Unless you getted hooked into a bunch of local PDs it is probably not a very lucrative business to be in even during the best of times. It has to be really tough now when discretionary spending gets pushed off until later - and if you are married then gun-related work is discretionary (it was second only to eating when I was single).

John has been doing work on my rifles for seveal years now, and nobody touches my rifles unless they are really good. John recently turned an old FN Mauser 30-06 that I had into a really slick 9.3x62mm - new barrel, grooved receiver for stripper clips, forward mounted sight rail, matte finish on metal adn oil on stock - he really did a superb job.

He is CCW himself, and loves 1911s, so I started feeding him some pistol work. Great results! Funny thing is that having his CCW thru Riverside means you can't carry 1911s - they apparently believe that a 1911 takes too much practice for the averae citizen to handle competently!

That is the third time I've heard that notion from the LEO profession. In a class a long time ago the instructor had us stand and tell what type of pistol we would use for the training. There were plenty of Sigs, Glocks, Berettas, HKs and revolvers. There was only a handful of us O Frame shooters. After the class had commited themselves to their choice of pistol, the instructor told us "when I see a 1911, I think advanced student".

I heard a rumor that the new Rvrsd sheriff now allows 1911s ..... when CCW authorized. Can anyone confirm?
