So I have the hook ups to get any Armo Holdings stuff free and I so I use Break Free and blue wonder products right now.
I have only had to worry about range guns so soaking them with CLP and in a non sealed bag has been fine. Now that I will carry this wont obviously work so I need a new plan. What I plan to do is continue with CLP but be sure and whipe dry with a clean cloth. Of the Blue Wonder products I plan to use Armadillo and XFR. Mainly since I can ask for them possibly free but more importantly they are compatiable with Break Free since they are all the same company. So I called Blue Wonder today and asked if after using CLP I can apply armadillo with out having to degrease like you would militec ect and they said I dont. So this is all working out well for what I want so far. Then I figure after the CLP is cleaned off with a dry rag I can XFR the needed parts and then to protect from finger prints I can Armadillo the slide. I asked if I can whipe down the gun with a slicone cloth and not remove the wax and they said it was fine as well as using the Break Free cloth. I thought the cleaning properties of CLP may not be so good on putting over the wax so I want to know if I should just use the silicone cloth but read its not so great for rust prevention. I figured also that under the grips is a problem area so a nice coat of wax all over the gun and with the grips off would be perfect then a daily whipe down with a silicone cloth once I get home and put the gun up. Basically I am in the air with using CLP on a rag for regular whipe downs or the silicone cloth. I read on the net that a Blue Wonder guy thinks CLP may hinder the wax but when I called they said it wouldnt however I cant help but to question a cleaning product put over the top of wax not doing that. Obviously it would be safer to use the silicone cloth, so with having CLP on prior to the wax application would this still be good maintenace of a blued gun? |

Well from what I am learing the Armadillo wax is excellent for this and I plan to apply it often as needed when the fram is stripped down. This way CLP is on first so every spec of the gun is protected but then attempt to recover all of it with the wax.
I just need to know about regualr whipe downs with a silicone cloth or a CLP clot. I guess I should listen to the Blue Wonder people about this but they say either is fine. I am just guessing that the silicone cloth wont have cleaning agents in it to strip wax off. Trust me my OCD will likely prevent any sort of rust no matter what I use, lol. The wife is already complaining that I now have another OCD project, hehehe. Its going to be daily gun rubbing time for daddy while watching TV, just no coon dogs or back woods Kentucky. |

My son can pick up a gun and rust will form within a few hours.. it's light but it forms... I found that corosionX marine was the only thing that would work for his guns... unfortunately it is really wet and can leach into my clothes..but if you have the kind of body chemistry to make the gun rust fast... well good luck with your OCD 'cause you will be in full bloom baby.. ![]()

![]() I too have sweat that makes stuff rust quickly. When I wore glasses I had to get titanium frames, the regular ones corroded in a week. So - stainless and alloy carry guns for me. Just got a Kahr PM40 to replace the PPK that was really just a placeholder. |

I heard from an old BLM guy that using a dry lubricant for desert carry was preferred since "wet" oils can attract dust and clog things up, and/or, dry up oil to make actions slugglish.
Anyone in the desert communities can comment on that?

Ok forget militec talk I had settled on not buying from a guy who posts pics of himself flexing with his shirt in a pack of 7 german shepards, lol. Seriously go look at the nut bags web site, not dealing with a full deck there.
I am not using dry lubes I am waxing the outside of the gun like wou would a car to repel finger print oils and moisture like any wax would. This stuff is made for guns and has some good reputation for working quite well. I think I will just settle for the CLP cloth for daily whipe downs so that I am sure each spec of the gun is always protected should any of the wax ever rub off one area. It may remove some of the wax after a week or so but I can just redo it at that point. Blue Wonder tech support said CLP woudl be fine so I will trust that and since its more of a rust preventor then silicone it should be perfect for what I want. |
