I used the regular cleaner for the first time last night to clean my CDP. I was really impressed with it. I don't care how much it costs, I'll continue to use it.

I did a little test on my 700 pss. Basically the same load, same bullet - 50 rounds each sitting. Each time i came back from the range, I tried strait hoppes #9, some Break-free, some foam out stuff (can't remember the name) and the M-pro.
It took a LOT of work with the hoppes and break-free. the foam stuff was ok, but it didn't clean the copper out. M-pro was best by far for my job. To clarify, the smell of Hoppes still requires a cold shower...

I use liquid M-Pro 7 in a spray bottle and really like it for removing carbon fouling. The gel version sounds interesting but I haven't tried it yet. Does it get rid of copper any better than the liquid?
A little off topic, but what the heck: Just recently (6 months or so) I discovered my new favorite way for removing copper fouling. It's called "Wipe-Out Brushless Bore Cleaner." It's a foaming type cleaner, doesn't do much for carbon (despite the hype on the side of the can), but is fantastic for copper. I'll do my normal cleaning to get the carbon fouling out, then if I can see copper in the bore I'll spray this stuff down the barrel, leave it sit overnight so it's got plenty of time to work, then in the morning push a dry patch through the barrel and watch the stream of pretty blue fluid drain out (doing this over a trash can is highly recommended!) Even better, it lacks that lovely ammonia aroma of so many other copper removers.

I use Hoppes #9, and in my blissfull ignorance, I THINK these gun barrels are squeaky clean. They certainly LOOK good, but I read about the evils of insidious "copper fouling" and I start to get the cold shivers and sweats in fear of this dreaded "copper fouling".
How do you know the fancy-ky-mpro gel stuff is doing a better job than plain old Hoppes #9? Could I have "copper fouling" and never know it? Is this as bad as the old "ring around the collar" commercials? Mostly the bullets still leave the barrels at a decent rate of speed, so I guess things are OK, but I have lingering doubts, unspecified fears, even deep seated concerns..."COPPER FOULING" could be secretly causing me grief, YET I DON'T YET KNOW IT?! WORSE THAN GERMS, VIRUSES OR EVEN (dare I even say it) LIBERALS!!!!!! Its COPPER FOULING!!! |

I find that using CLP regularly makes it a snap to clean the next time, it leaves a teflon film that seems to keep the carbon from sticking. YMMV. ![]()
