Default Sweat and corrosion.

Since starting a new business last year, the majority of my carry for the past year has been indoors...therefore not much concern over sweat causing corrosion. The past two days, however I was outdoors in so-cal carrying a cz83 iwb. My gun had corrosion on the metal where the grip contacted my skin...this worked itself into the mainspring and into the magazine well and onto the magazine.

The only metal that is in constant skin contact that did NOT corrode was the grip screw. I cover this screw head with corrosion x with every cleaning. I will now give a healthy coat of the rust inhibitor to the above mentioned areas from now on.

I'm surprised at just how fast corrosion can set in.

I had pitting start on my Kimber down by the muzzle...turns out it was from the sweat and tannin. Been carrying in kydex mostly for the past 3 years, and haven't had the issues since

Wow. I'm surprised you had that happen to your CZ. I carry a CZ52 often and never had that happen.

Falco Holsters makes excellent holsters that work quite well at keeping your pistol from contact with skin or clothing. I have a few different ones that have served me very well over the past few years. You might want to check them out and see what they have for you pistol.

They are exceptional at making holsters to fit ANY CZ pistol.

Eezox is a great solution for carry weapons, it's one of the best rust inhibitors anywhere.

PS: Glock no longer uses Tenifer, as environmental regulations made it too expensive to continue with.. They now use a nitration process. However, they still seem very rust resistant

Source?
My rumor mill only indicated US made Glocks are affected but those made in Austria are still tenifer.

The instructor at my Glock armorer's class three weeks ago, who just got back from touring the nitration facility at the plant in Austria.

There was a phase-out process, but it's 100% converted now, according to him.

I was a little surprised too, but I was sweating profusely for both days in so-cal. I'll wear a t-shirt underneath a button up shirt next time. I think capillary action must have pulled the sweat in between the grip and the metal...but I did NOT have that area treated very well with the rust inhibitor either.

No rust in the barrel, nor anywhere on the slide.

I did a little more checking and I agree, tenifer has been phased out quietly.
Apparently Glock and other manufactures are sill ferritic nitrocarburizing their pistols but are now using chemicals that are more eco-friendly than cyanide.

PS: Sorry about the thread jack

From the tests I've seen it's the best. I use it to coat the outside of all my guns and RemOil for everywhere else.

I started getting some pitting on my 1911. I carry everyday and most of the time it while working on the property so it's hot and I sweat. I started wearing a tucked in under shirt to keep the gun from being right on my skin. Seems to have made a difference. Also brass wool takes rust off and didn't hurt the stainless metal.
