Have you taken off the grip to check that the strain screw for the mainspring is fully tightened? I use some locktite (use the weakest stuff so you can loosen for maintenance later) and sinch that screw down all the way, otherwise light strikes will occur with increasing regularity.

If your gunsmith is unable to get the problem fixed, then send it back to Smith and Wesson. I can say first hand that I was treated very well. In the end they did make things right.

My problem was with a new revolver that had darn near a 20# DA pull, with metal on metal grating. In my case, the tiny spring preventing the internal lock flag from engaging from the recoil was already to weak. The flag lodged between the hammer and the body with just enough pressure to make it grind. Smith and Wesson paid shipping both ways and I had it back in 4 weeks.
