Default Kimber assembly/disassembly guide

Hey All,

For all those Kimber owners out there I stumbled across these two PDFs on The Indoor Range

I wanted to explore the insides of my Ultra Carry, but was not sure I could get things back together again...with this guide, I'll probably give it a shot.

The files were too large to include in the forum so the links are included below:

http://www.theindoorrange.com/Kimber/KimberII_Disassembly.pdf

http://www.theindoorrange.com/Kimber...I_Assembly.pdf

Enjoy,
-Peter

Thank you for posting the links. I too have been interested in getting to know my Kimber more intimately, however, my comfort level was not up to the task, these PDFs will be very helpfull.

Thanks again,

The guides you found are for the full size 1911 type gun, the Ultra Carry is somewhat different. Check the manuals on Kimbers website for the UC field stripping guide. http://www.kimberamerica.com/downloa...ls/Compact.pdf

The huge diff is that the UC/Compact has a bushingless bull barrel, and uses a takedown pin (or paperclip) to disassemble instead of a bushing wrench. Then the internal recoil spring/guide rod assembly is usually best removed as one piece.

The Custom II (shown in the excellent photos you found) is a traditional 1911 ("O" frame) design, the only difference between it and an original Colt 1911 is that the Kimber Custom II has a full length guide rod, firing pin safety, lowered and flared ejection port.

Sorry for butting in, but the UltraCarry/Compact types and the Custom II/ full size are really totally different initial procedures for stripping, you would have not had an easy time with those directions.

This is totally correct, for initial takedown you should use the "takedown pin" or a paper clip. Some of the more experienced guys are willing to take it down with out the safety pin, but the re-assemblying is just that much more difficult. I am not one of them!
Besides this, the hardest part is remembering how the sear assembly interfaces. So when you take it out as a unit, try to remember how the three pieces were positioned together.
Lastely be sure not to deform the leaves on the main spring, you may or may not desire the result.

Here is another link that might help:

The M1911 Pistols Organization Forums Site - Field Stripping the Ultra or 3-inch barrel Kimber

You might have to cut and paste!
