From what I can see, I would call that blemish, a "discoloration", I do not know much about metallurgy, but I think that what you have there is the first stage of corrosion or oxidation. It may evolve, or may not evolve into something else. Keep it under observation in case it gets more pronounced and seek advise from someone who knows about these things.
My comment is pure speculation. Research it! Is this pistol under warranty?
The issue is wether it will cause the metal to weaken. Inboost, another member here, might be able to emit an educated opinion, I would trust his assessment.
I would send it back to able to clear all doubts, after arming myself with as much information as possible, you may have a new, unblemished barrel coming from the factory!
I am sorry to see this, they are beautiful guns!. Good Luck!

Kimber barrels will rust if preventive measures are not taken.

Even on the stainless models. (Barrels themselves are not stainless)

If it were mine, I'd get a pinch of 0000 steel wool and a bit of oil and work it till it's shiny again.

I disassemble and clean my pistol with Hoppes after shooting then put a light coat of Singer sewing machine oil (Very high quality light machine oil) on everything.

Everybody has their favorite lubricant and that's mine.

Just got off the phone with kimber and they told me to buy 3M red scuff pads and use WD-40 to clean off. Afterwards to put oil on the whole outside of the barrel. He said I can send it in but they r going to resurfaces it and is the samething. I don't want to sent it , it's my every day carry I do have a glock I can use. What do you guys think send it in or do it my self?

+1

Are you leaving a light film of oil on the barrel after cleaning to protect it ????

I have never seen that on mine, but i would not be affraid if i did.
I oil mine, and i do not know how that would happen, are you a heavy sweater? maybe too much moisture?

try a different oil after you clean it off, scotchbrite, or steel wool in that area will not hurt a thing.

Good advice, the very fine steel wool will not damage the metal, yet should remove the blurry funky patch. I use Hoppes gun oil, but I believe any high grade oil will be effective in preventing rust if the metal is lightly coated with it.

I certainly would not send that in to Kimber for such a small item--now if the inside of the barrel is rusty or corroded, that is a different story, I would send it in in that case. Minor issues are normal maint. items for a gun owner.

I cleaned mine once and didn't see anything like that... gee I clean it every 1000 rounds or so so I ain't afraid of a little discoloration... shoot, I couldn't see the discoloration from all of the oil and powder residue... and it still works every time... ....

This happened to one of my Kimber barrels a while ago too... 0000 steel wool + oil did the trick easily and the rust has not come back.

In my case, the dehumidifier in my safe wasn't hardcore enough... replaced with a goldenrod and no more rust!
