Default 1911 Bobtail job?

Has anyone done a bobtail job at home on a 1911 using the available jig? I was wondering about the difficulty and tools required. Thinking about doing it to my S&W 1911Sc 4.25".
Thanks,
Dave

A bobtail job? Can explain that in more detail. I thought I had heard of everything that can be done to a "O" frame. Never hard of that.

Default 1911 Bobtail job?

Hi, Dave
Are you talking about the Ed Brown modification? I've had the part and the jig for awhile now. I've never had the guts to tackle the project. If you took your time, and you could probably do it. But I know the guys in Ed Brown's shop do it all time, they are priced well for their work and timely. Why don't you give them a call.

Hi Guys,
Yes, the Ed Brown jig is the one I'm thinking of. Here's a pic Greg. The idea is to lessen the chance of a print on your coat or shirt from that sharp corner and the bottom edge of the 1911 grip. I saw one and liked the idea.

Two people at the Firing Line in H.B. have the Cobra Carry. I've been fortunate enough to shoot it. Very nice feel ergonomically, 1911 shooters will have no problems with recoil. If you go in that direction please post your findings.

Looks like a Ed Brown Executive Carry.

Never knew the name of that modification. I've shot several of Ed's guns. They don't feel comfortable in my hand. YMMV, it's a personal thing.

Expensive little guys but man, I do like to shoot them. I had the pleasure of shooting one of my friends and dude, it was really nice. The bobtail actually felt really good as well, and I have *ahem* large hands...for a girl.

Hmmmm, if I had the money, would I buy an Ed Brown or Les Bear? These are the types of dilemmas that keep me awake at night. Not work, world hunger or war... but what should my next gun be.

The DW commander bobtail (from cz-usa) looks to be an affordable and quality bobtail handgun.

The Dan Wesson is a quality pistol. I have tried the Ed Brown Cobra Carry and the DW Patriot C-Bob. Because it almost fell into my lap, I bought the Dan Wesson. Both are unique because of the bobtail, and either one is a good conversation piece. But then again, I enjoy almost any .45 in the O Frame platform.

You are thinking in the right direction. World hunger and war are things we can not do anything about personally, but our next firearm purchase is something within our control.

I did not know that it was called that.....makes sense for carry, it should print less than the regular butt.
