I prefer to be one of the first two kind and to learn from others' mistakes.

They used to be connected, but now all the other locations have been sold. the only one owned by the French's is the address at the top of the thread. I know the other's have some of the same products, but I've been told they don't use the same original recipes anymore.

That was the original French's. The owner of the one on 17th street "French's Cupcake" parents used to own the one on Baker and sold it years ago.

The new owners opened up the other locations in OC. The one on 17th is the only one that is still French Family owned. 3rd generation and actually a 4th generation and probably soon to be 5th generation to be working there one day.

As Trinity said the original French's Cupcake on 17th Street still uses the original recipes and makes almost all items from scratch "down to boiling the custard fresh every morning". Also the owner was the one to originally develop the famous Wagon Wheel pastry back when he was a baker at his parents shop.

So I guess bottom line if you want the original family recipes that made French's famous "Rated number 1 bakery in Orange County by the OC Register's, Best of OC Edition, 8 consecutive years" go to the one on 17th street.

Ask for Jerry and tell him you are a friend of Greg Block's.

The best tasting and most amazing sculpted cakes!

And when you go there, a "Wagon Wheel" is a must! Just ask for it by name!
I just stopped by to check out the goods.
It seems that you need to get there early to pick up a wagon wheel. I got there after they sold them all. I picked up a few other goodies though.
