Default Here's a shocker: Bass Pro Shops in Las Vegas, NV

A couple of years ago, myself and a friend (both Nevada non-resident CCW holders) decided to stop into the massive Bass Pro Shops in Las Vegas right off highway 15. Immediately inside the glass doors there was a customer service counter and a large sign posted that basically said all concealed firearms had to be unloaded and relinquished at the counter before being able to proceed into the store. Being law abiding and upstanding citizens, we decided to comply with the store policy. We notified the gentleman sitting at the counter that we wished to comply with the policy and proceeded to pull out our firearms and unload them. We were then issued a claim ticket for our respective firearms so that we could retrieve them when we left. It was kinda awkward pulling out our loaded weapons in full view of everyone in a busy super store and we did get some shocked and unapproving stares (most likely from some leftist types visiting from Commieforn...........I mean, California.

Once inside, we did notice that Bass Pro carries and sells all sorts of firearms and ammunition. How hypocritical is that, especially in a gun friendly state like Nevada. I won't be buying anything from them anytime soon.

SCMA

Edit: sorry this is a little off topic as it does not involve a business in CA, but I think it would be of interest to most of us anyways.

If it was me I would not have remained their customer and told them I am taking my money elsewhere. Personally I prefer to patronize the local mom & pop shop before going to a chain store. But that's me.

ALL of our gun shops and sporting goods stores here let you keep your CCW firearm on you...

Hand some stranger -- a clerk in a store -- my gun so I can spend my hard earned money in their store? Yeah right. I'd either carry or not shop there, but the other choice is a joke.

I'm not sure but I thought Cabella's had the same policy? Or am I wrong here?

i was at Bass pro in Vegas after they opened. I overheard the guy behind the counter tell a customer:

They will not sell regular capacity magazines in their store (NV law has no restrictions)
They will not sell 'Assault Weapons' (again, NV state law has no issues)
They will not sell revolvers with barrels under 4 Inches in length

If Hitler was the owner of a gun shop I think he would have been more relaxed than Bass Pro. Having said that, I will NEVER spend $1 in a store with B.S. policies like Bass Pro. Unarm? You gotta be kidding me.

The Reno Cabella's has no such sign regarding CCW. They do have trigger locks available for those bringing firearms into the store but you maintain posession of the gun.

I've a Utah CCW permit. I simply keep my pistol concealed, walk right past the customer service guy and go about my shopping. I do the same at Sheels on the other end of town.

Yup. I definitely will NOT be shopping there.

At the Cabela's in Reno they do have a sign for no loaded firearms. CCW in not included unless you want to remove it from the holster to try out other holsters or have the gun looked at. If it remains concealed and holstered during your time in the store there is no issue and you are not breaking any rules. Their big concern is having a LOADED weapon drawn and handled.

At the Sheels store I do believe it is the same but did not speak with any one specifically about it.

I have spoken with sales people in both establishments as well as Sportsman's Warehouse and gun show vendors about purchasing firearms with my Seasonal Resident ID and been told it is totally legal for me to purchase firearms from them for Nevada use. I would have to go through the legal procedures to import them into California however, if they are allowed by law.

I have and do carry in all three of the establishments and do so with confidence (no loaded gun show carry though).

At the cabelas in phoenix there was no issues at all.

The only place I've ever been to in AZ where I had to disarm was Galco and it was worth it to see the memorabilia room.

I don't buy their products - they work in a pinch but TT gunleather, milt sparks and alessi are so much superior for holsters and wilderness tactical belts and liger belts are much nicer (yeah yeah, liger.. whatever, it's still very nice belt).

Being this is a thread about out of California carry you need to be careful of laws of the state you are visiting, regarding CCW within an establishment with a sign. Being Bass Pro Shops is multi state there might be a state or two where you are breaking the law disregarding their no firearms sign.

I know you know this. I am just throwing it out there for the benefit of all.

Step back and look at this from a different view.

For example....The Terminator, first movie..........

Terminator enters gun store, asks to purchase all kind of different weapons, owner says, "I think I'll close down early today".....Terminator takes rounds from box on counter "dumb" but a prop....loads weapon with round taken from box.....blows away owner......

Now, you take a loaded weapon in the store. Let's say, your freakin' goofy or your best friend just did something with your best lady friend...your not going to kill your best friend "everyone knows the joke don't they?"....you tell the clerk, "let me see that MP5".....he hands it to you....your freakin' nuts because of whatever.... you remove a mag from your 9mm, load the MP5 or whatever it is.....start taking people out with the "stores" weapon.

Guess who Loses Big Time in Court.........

I'm just say'in.....think it through.....what if you owned the store?????

if I owned the store every employee would have to openly carry a full size pistol or revolver of major caliber in a good quality holster, matching belt and spare mag/speed loader carrier. They would be well trained and I would reimburse 50% of the cost of every training class they take from a reputable school, including ammo.

Guns and ammo are not handled at the same time by customers. No exceptions. The guy coming in trying to pull this one off will only try it once.

Now you know why I don't own a gun store.

I was going to ask if you wanted to go into business together and buy a "Bass Pro Shop"......Mmmmm.....guess that'll never happen....

Personally, I don't give a rat's hoot about signs in stores. I've been in the Reno Cabelas about 6 times and never saw any sign about firearms. I'm not screwing around with someone's mis-informed, mis-guided, ideology, fear of liability or whatever reasoning when it comes to the safety of my family and myself. I don't unload my firearm. I don't leave it in the car and I don't tell anyone I'm armed. AND I carry it concealed, so no one knows I'm carrying. I'm just another "joe" shopping in the store, minding my own business.
