NV is gun friendly, Las Vegas is Commifornia EAST. I stopped a cop in a dive in Wadesworth and wanted to know the law on carrying in a vehicle. She said just dont have one in the chamber or concealed on you (if you arent ccw) and you are fine. Other than vegas that is.

Any signs regarding not carrying or unloading or locking are meaningless in Colo.

AND, their [Bass Pro's] handguns were waaaay overpriced compared to those at Sportsman's Warehouse.

Being law abiding and upstanding citizens, we decided to comply with the store policy. We notified the gentleman sitting at the counter that we wished to comply with the policy and proceeded to pull out our firearms and unload them. We were then issued a claim ticket for our respective firearms so that we could retrieve them when we left. It was kinda awkward pulling out our loaded weapons in full view of everyone in a busy super store and we did get some shocked and unapproving stares (most likely from some leftist types visiting from Commieforn...........I mean, California.

Once inside, we did notice that Bass Pro carries and sells all sorts of firearms and ammunition. How hypocritical is that, especially in a gun friendly state like Nevada. I won't be buying anything from them anytime soon.

Edit: sorry this is a little off topic as it does not involve a business in CA, but I think it would be of interest to most of us anyways.
What's the big deal about a store having a firearms policy as it could be an insurance requirement or for public safety! If you're in le when you take a prisoner into jail you put your weapon in a keyed lock box until you're ready to leave .I shop Bass Pro and it doesn't bother me about their firearms policy but I retired from law enforcement.

The problem is a jail is secure and the reason the cops put their firearm away is so that a prison doesn't take it off them in the close quarters of the jail.

Bass Pro Shops is not a secure environment and anyone can come in to do bad things. We here on this forum prefer to take our own safety and the safety of our loved ones into our own hands. That means using all methods available to us in a free society such as situational awareness, avoidance, and yes, carrying our CCW firearm whereever it is allowed by law.

The arguement you appear to be trying to make could apply just about anywhere and continues to perpetuate the myth that someone else, ie. law enforcement is resposible for our safety.

And I fail to see why your being a retired LE has anything to do with it other than to show the divide that sometimes becomes visible between LE and us regular folk.

Busnesses have the right to set conditions on entrance to their property ie no alcoholic beverages,no pets,no unruly behavior & no concealed handguns. Your ccw doesn't give you the right to ignore these conditions!

I agree.... My house, my rules. Youre free to go somewhere else, shop somewhere else, etc (and I encourage people to) but PROPERTY rights are as sacrosanct to me as self defense rights.

I have been to bass pro, I have carried there. If you are carrying concealed you will not have a problem.

I don't go out of my way to read every single sign in 10 point font that is posted on a wall at a business. I just go about my business like I always have and never have a problem. If they do have a policy of no CCW and they find out, just leave.

I have never seen a no CCW sign at the California location, but then again, they probably don't expect people to have CCW's in California.

These statements are very true but do not support your earlier statements comparing a secure jail to a private buisness which is open to the public and by no means a secure environment. (see below). If you are going to defend a stated position it would help to stay focused on the issue for which you are being challenged.

This I find to be the most troubling of your statements in my opinion because it goes to the heart of the issue that people somehow believe that if there is a no firearms rule, policy, law, etc. that miraculously the world would be a safer place. In my opinion a very nieve position.

Bakersfield was going to have a Bass Pro Shop come to town and be ready for business in 2010. With the economy in the toilet I think this plan has been put on the back burner. We all ready have 3 Wally Worlds, and two more "Super" Wally Worlds in the construction phase. Our local mom and pop gun shops are I'm sure, feeling the pinch from the level of competiton that these Mega-Lo-Marts can bring in with their massive buying power.

For what it's worth I still try and shop at my 2 favorite local gun stores, and while CCW'ing, and I think the owners and/or employees have no problem with it. At least either I have never been made, or no one has said anything about it to me. I guess my point would be that I try and buy local when it's financially feasible, and avoid these kind of chain places all together.

Bass Pro has horrible prices on guns, my local mom and pop has much better deals.

Same w/the Cabela's for the Denver/Golden Metro area. They finished construction on I-70 for it some time ago but they haven't started building the complex yet.

Sportsmans Warehouse opened and closed within a couple of months in Victorville,CA wish they had picked a better area to open as we needed a store like this in CA.

Our SW in Grand Junction has remained open although they haven't been able to keep their inventory current (b/c of their financial difficulties) but just the other day I stopped in there and they had several dozen handguns on display (mostly Taurus & SIG). They basically sold out their entire inventory of handguns right after the election. This is the first re-stocking of handguns since then. I hope this is a sign that their financial problems are behind them 'cause they're a good store, they treat customers right & their prices beat Gander Mountain & Cabela's.

For the few times I visited SW I was pleased with their inventory as it was far better than Turners Outdoorsman & Bass Pro..Months after opening Bass Pro shelves were unfilled with ammo. They promised they'd have leverevolution 45-70 ammo in the store prior to my hunting trip but they never had any,I go there infrequently for clothing.I buy from Midway , Shooter's Pro Shop - Factory seconds, hunting and shooting supplies and reloading components. and Bivwak - Outdoor, Firearm and Gun Auctions.
