Default River City Gun Exchange

This morning, with some trepidation due to reading bad reviews about River City Gun Exchange in Sacramento, I took a chance and went there.

Greg and Loren, along with someone whose name I did not get, were all very friendly, extremely helpful, and knowledgeable.

I heartily recommend this store. They have a great supply of ammo, guns and assorted supplies.

If you're ever in the area, drop in. I'm sure you will be glad you did.

River City Gun Exchange has one or two employees that can be a bit gruff with the customers. I would imagine that most/all the complaints are from him/them. Otherwise, their prices aren't too bad, but since they're in the City of Sacramento, if you buy ammo, you gotta do the other required hoops (aka: registration). It's not their fault though... the last time I was there, they weren't too happy with having to do it.

I've been in there a couple times. It seems that all gun stores now have a couple of employees that just have no business dealing with the public.

Can i ask where you saw the negative reviews? Were they on this board?

If you have a ccw you are exempt from the ammo purchase paperwork.

There hasn't been a gun I've been too that hasn't had someone who needs some customer service training. It's just the way it is. Sometimes selling a gun isn't as important BSing with your co worker.

I recently purchased a Sig 229 and River City was the only one who had any in stock or would talk about ordering. They had a cool two tone in and gave me a good price.

I found them fine to deal with. I agree that all gun stores have a few surley folks.

A couple places wouldn't get back to me on a price to order one from Sig. Even after repeated calls, so I drove down to River City- a not great part of town. some interesting people looking at guns who maybe shouldn't be.

I did buy ammo there and learned of the new Sacramento law to buy ammo requiring registration and background. Shocked me, but then the guy announced that I don't need to because I have a CCW. He then stated how rare they are and, "Wow, he's got a CCW". I had to hold my finger up to my lips to quiet him down. CCWs are exempt from filling out paperwork for ammo.

Essentially the counter help at most gun stores are "low rent" employees. Most people with good customer service skills would have a higher paying job. Many times the owners are just tired of all the stupid questions like ...
"I want to buy some shotgun shells"
("What type?")
"Doesn't matter, I just want to cut the powder out to make cannon powder... I read it on the internet."
("GET OUT OF MY STORE!" )
Actual conversation I witnessed....

awitham - those of us that know 1buba still wonder if it was 10 or 15 years... If he can't remember, how can we? I do shop there when I can. RCGE is a good shop, but like many shops, there's an employee or two that some people just don't like.
