Default My Shasta County CCW progress.

I decided to use this thread to describe the process here in Shasta County, and my experiences during it.

I was able to receive my application packet by mail, just by calling SCSD.
The person I spoke with was very helpful and professional. My packet came in 1 day.

My first draft of a Good Cause letter is complete. I'm sending a PM to CCWInstructor and other FM interested.

I spoke with Candy at SCSO today (she's been a great help) and learned that reference letters are not required in Shasta County. Also, the CCW class must be completed prior to turning in the application. So, now I wait for my local trainer to have enough students to hold a class. I feel like the lady in the Mervyns commercial "OPEN, OPEN, OPEN"! I'll just have to hurry up and wait.

Thank you very much for keeping the Forum updated. Your posts will be a benefit to others in your area who may also be contemplating applying for their CCW but are sitting on the fence about it. Well done, the waiting for the class to fill up is kinda like the 10 day DROS period . . . best wishes.

Thanks for letting us know that. That's the opposite of most counties - in OC if we complete the training prior to application, we have to take the training again. That's to discourage unscrupulous trainers from taking money from people who won't be approved.

So I would interpret that policy as meaning that they expect to approve most people.

Nice Shot has a good class with range on site. The process with the county is painless. I applied and had my permit in less than 2 weeks.

Thanks cerscott1. I checked out Nice Shot, Jones Fort and John Funk. I chose John because he is up here in Fall River. I also learned that I can turn my app in here at the Burney Station. I hope I can have my interview here also.

1 more step in the procedure. Everything sounds good so far. It sounds as if you need to find a couple of friends who may wish to carry so you can fill up the class quicker.

Thanks for the update.

I would go out and shoot at a few empty cans if you can not get training from a qualified instructor, unless you are totally new to guns, if you are, then you must have training with an instructor before the qualification class, it will simply stack the deck in your favor.
See if you can get the particular requirements for range qualification in your county. Keep us advised so we can pass this info to others. Good Luck, We are here!!!

The trainers brochure indicates a 50 question written test and 100 rounds qualifying, with a rating of 70% required for each. I'll give all the info on the class, written and qualifying sections.
