Default My Interview is Tuesday... Any Thoughts?

The title says it all. Interview is for Tuesday. Does anyone have any advice. I was told to bring my CDL and myself. I confirmed that twice. Still, can anything else help?

BTW: Was told by the interviewer (on the phone) that this was "preliminary" to the in-depth background check. Any hidden meaning there?

I will keep you all posted.

If CCW were a job you wanted more than any other, you would go to extraordinary lengths to prepare for every interview involved in the application process.

Any interview can rule you out, you must pass all to receive issue, therefore, treat every interview as the only one.

Bring the originals and 2 copies of all your documentation (utility bills, application, written GC, photocopy of DL) with you, one for your reference during the process, and an extra copy to hand the interviewer either as you go or all at once (a stapled packet might be convenient). You may not need them, but if they help, you're SOL if you arrive without.

The more you can completely remove any consideration of the work involved in processing your application, the more your interviewer listens to you, instead of the little voices that remind her how much work she has to do to make it happen.

Dress for success (whatever that means for you), get a good night's sleep, eat properly, be hydrated, and visit the toilet for all needs and image refreshening beforehand.

None of this may matter, but if any can make a difference... you get the point.

Oh, and have a good time!
The worst outcome is you walk out just a wee bit older and wiser than you walked in.

Default An Update

Yesterday I went in for my interview. Katheryn and the Lt. were gracious and accomodating. I beleive that it went well. When I asked what the Lt. thought my chances were, he told me that he thought 50-50. He made it clear that the final word was the Chief's. However, he was going to pass my app along for the Chief to look at. I took this as a good sign as he did not deny me outright and was willing to pass it along. I will know in 30 days.

Wish me luck.

Unhappy Got Rejected

Well, I received my response from the Sheriff's office.

They said I did not "...establish that you are a specifically targeted victim nor did you provide any information that would support a sufficient nexus between issuance of a CCW permit and the avoidance of victimization".

I have thought I did more than a passable job of that. I suppose that was not the case in their eyes.

Does anyone have any further suggestions? Besides moving that is.

Your county only has 399 permits out with over one million residence. I think that says it all.

Angry

Ain't that the pure truth!

What gets my goat is that the tone and seeming intent of the refusal letter is that I need to BECOME a victim BEFORE I can get my CCW. This, to me, is very much closing the barn doors long after the cows are gone. So, according to their logic, I have to suffer a crime where I am a specific target BEFORE they will allow me to protect myself.

Seems kind of ludicrous. Is there any hope of appeal or is this a dead issue for me in Contra Costa County?

Personally, I think it's a dead issue in most urban counties.

You know, I love this state. I came out here from NYC 10 years ago. I love the weather, the beauty, the people (well, some of them), San Francisco (as a city).

What I am starting to dislike is the relentless political correctness and an overwhelming, lemming like, devotion to the extreme left. Not that NYC was any better when it comes to issues like this.

I am denied the ability to protect myself. This is intolerable.

I think that you'd find that most of us would agree with you. As CCWI stated, appeals and such are basically a dead issue in urban counties. I don't necessarily think he's telling you NOT to appeal, just that you probably won't be approved even after that appeal.

IMHO, filing an appeal may preserve some standing to sue, but then right now, winning that suit is not a guarantee, it'd cost you a lot of $$$$$ and the matter could end up changing in the next few years anyway, even perhaps before your case goes to trial and you'd have just wasted much dollars...

Can a request for info on the other 399 CCWers be made? Let's say you find some big shot with a shady past who was issued a CCW because of their celebrity status? Might that be a useful tool for appeal?

+1. As the post Heller suits work their way through the system, I expect the situation in the urban counties to become MUCH improved. But that take several years.
