Default Florida & Utah CCW

Just a data point for those of you that are going to apply for Florida and Utah licenses as you go through the process of getting your California CCW. I applied for both Florida and Utah on March 29th. I received my Florida CCW (signed by Charles Bronson of course) in the mail yesterday - it took exactly 59 calendar days. I have not yet received the Utah license, or heard from them.

I saw a blurb somewheres about Utah considering stopping issue of non resident licenses. Better hurry up in case it happens sometime in the future.

I hope that Utah does not do that. Although it changes weekly, it looks as if picking up Utah in addition to Florida gets you two additional states - Washington and Michigan. If those states happen to be of importance to you, and Utah stops non-resident issuance, then you might be able to pick them up with other states that allow non-resident CCWs, such as Nevada and Arizona. Those are less convenient because, at least the last time I checked, you need to take the training in the state, otherwise CCWI can set you up for them.

Michigan requires that you be a resident of the state your qualifying license is from.

California resident with a Utah does not cut it, or at least did not in the past. Someone correct me if I am incorrect.

I meant Washington and Minnesota for the extras with Utah over Florida. I didn't know that about Michigan, thanks.

There's actually seven such sates that only recognize CCW's issued from the holders home state of residence. As such, a non-resident CCW permit will not be honored in CO, FL, KA, MI, NH, SC, or WV.

I wish there was some way to deal with Colorado. I have to travel there on occasion.

Yeah. It's unfortunate that they dropped reciprocity. It was good briefly.

Maybe we could all buy a partial interest in a condominium in Park City and become "residents" of Utah for the purpsoe of our Utah CCWs, and for those states that require taht you be a resident for your CCW to be honored.

I do believe open carry except in the more populated areas is good to go in Colorado. Something to verify anyway.

My pleasure, we all are always learning. Congrats on your pair of permits. You are probably good in around 32-35 states now, especially if you have a Ca. and Nev.

Sadly, you can only be a resident of one state at a time. If you give you your CA residency you have to turn in your hard-won CA CCW.
