I'm new to this forum, found this site via CalGuns.net. I'm very interested in this CCW process, and how folks are obtaining CCW's from FL and UT. I know trying to get a CCW in San Francisco will be next to impossible, I think I have a better chance of winning the lottery.

So does anyone care to share their experienes, does these two FL and UT CCW permits allow one to carry in CA? Or is it only good for when traveling out of state? Please pardon my ignorance on the subject, I'm here to learn as much as possible.

Feel free to guide me to well detailed postings that were previous made, and or if anyone wishes to e-mail me directly I'd be happy to hear from you, my e-mail address is.

Colorado is a state that a California resident can no longer carry in regardless of what kind of CCW permits you have.

What will be interesting is to see what kind of SCOTUS ruling we get on the Heller case regarding the 2nd amendment.

The issue of non resident permits not being honored versus resident permits being honored potentially could open up class action lawsuits for California residents who have non resident CCW permits for civil rights violations.

Right now the Second Amendment foundation has lawsuits in Federal court challenging Fed gun laws that strip Americans who live overseas of gun rights because they don't have a US address.

These will be interesting cases, they probably have been on hold due to Heller.

States could probably argue that they want their residents to get resident CCW permits and argue that they have a state interest.

I don't see how the states could justify honoring out of state resident ccw permits, but not non resident since the only difference is residence.

The graphic at this this site allows to to click on a state that you have a CCW license from and shows you what states will honor it.

Click on Florida, it shows you the states that honor Florida licenses. Close that, click on Utah, it shows you the states that honor Utah licenses.

Welcome aboard run8. To answer your question,,, no a Fl. or Utah permit will not allow you to carry in California. They are both good for travel in around 30 states though.

In SF you will not be able to obtain a permit, so your ability to carry in California will not happen unless you decide to move to a more CCW friendly county and are successful there.

Folks, let me start off by thanking you for allowing me partake on this forum, and over time maybe share a bit about what I know or knowledge I've attainted. Anyone can purchase a gun, but I think taking the time to become part of these forums, here and Calguns.net, whether your proactive or lurk. This will make you a better gun owner, and collector, one who understands the laws, how they apply, how they can be made better and to pass on this education with others.

My job profession is that of a locomotive engineer, operating passenger trains, I've been off for a while on a work related lower back injury. But when I was at work, when we got new hires, or FNG's as some would call them, these folks were afraid to ask questions and I would tell them never be afraid to approach me with what you think is a dumb question, there's no such thing as anything is up for game. Especially when your new with a job that requires a person to know alot of rules, rules that help safegaurd others, I would tell folks I fear the person that knows it all because it's a lie and that person(s) can be a dangerous sort.

I would just love to share information with folks who were new hires on the railroad, it is a constant learning experience I would tell folks, no two days are going to be the same. And relating this to firearms, no two days at the range would be the same, if someone had advice or a better way to do something, heck I would surely listen and appreciate the input. There's just so much in firearms to educate ones self about, and ask questions, that's the key thing. I know there's folks out there who will jump down on others, if they feel the question has no place, that just leaves a person to assume and possibly do something wrong that could affect their lives, the lives of others and or their family members if a situation arises where the use of deadly force comes into play.

As far as my not being able to have a CCW here in San Francisco, perhaps someday I may move to a more friendlier county with regards to the CCW issue, only time will tell on that part. Though aving the FL and UT CCW's, while not valid in CA would still make sense to have in ones possession when traveling, especially if your in the middle of no where. But I digress, needless to say there's just a wealth of information for me to learn here and I'm glad that there are friendly folk taking the time to welcome me in, I thank you all for that.

Okay, I'll stop rambling, I have alot of reading to do now

You have your CCW, so CCWI should have set you up with the training certificates for both Utah and Florida, so the only real pain will be taking the time to get the fingerprint cards done.

Well I applied to both Utah and Florida begining on March 8th. My Utah went smoothly and I received it while I was out of town June 13th (ha ha). Florida on the other hand came on June 19th a week after I got back from Florida, such is life.

You need to go back to Florida and carry as a matter of principle.

If they delayed your license because they knew you would be there, then it must have "Be Kind to Criminals" week.

I don't think it's gonna happen soon. The trainer I got my non-res Utah from is going back to Utah later on this fall to recertify his Utah Trainer's license. I don't think Utah would be still licensing out-of-state trainers if they were gonna discontinue non-res issue.
