Default Los Angeles... ... ... I know, I know, why bother right?

So I'm new here to LA...and I just have to ask the question, even if its been covered and beaten to death before...

is there any way to obtain a LA county CCW? Has anyone done it before (who is not a retired LEO!)? Can I even go to try and fill out an application? Where would I go to fill out an application?

As I understand it, it's incredibly difficult to obtain a permit... has anyone been able to use the law to their side and "finagle" a permit out of the system?

Thanks, and go easy on me

If you were the guy in your avatar--no problemo. If you are as rich as the guy in your avatar--no problemo. Judge--most likely no problemo. Otherwise, you're pretty much out of lucko.

I think you are understating the situation.

Basically, you have to be incredibly well connected. Get famous, get seriously wealthy, or get powerful.

Or move.

OC is straightforward. If you have a good cause and a clean background, OCSD will issue - and is surprisingly fast about it. Melissa - who does the interviews and handles the applications and such - is terrific.

Ventura County does issue, but is very slow. http://www.calccw.com/Forums/getting...html#post22460

Thanks bombard...

Where do you go in CA to get the permit? In my experience, each state is different. In NY, it was the county clerks office (nightmare!), in New Hampshire it was a special licensing division for firearms (easiest and fastest process of your life), and in MA...well, to be honest, I don't remember, because I refused to get one in MA.

In CA there are two authorities who may issue a CCW license. The Chief of Police in the city in which you reside, or the Sheriff of the county in which you reside. However, most Police Chiefs defer all CCW matters to the Sheriff.

Lets look at it from a different perspective: even if it's a loosing cause I'd say apply:
1. You might get lucky and they might see the light (ok slim chance I admit it)
2. The more candidates apply the more they might go hmmm.... maybe we are going wrong about this. Maybe it IS an election/re-election issue.

I know, that's why I'm going to apply. But I'm going to go visit the sheriffs office, and meet the man/men/women who do the licensing. Then I'm going to take them out for a steak dinner, get to know them...get on their good side, and plead them to give me a license.

I will not give up until I have one. I will become a very very very familiar face in their office if they deny me. And then I'll do everything in my power to make sure they don't get re-elected to their current positions.

At one time Culver City issued directly, and was much easier than LASD. I don't know if that's still true.

based on the link to county FAQ, where I live is part of hollywood, and hollywood is handled by the Sheriffs dept. not the local pd. I'm probably still going to try and become friendly with both. Its tough when you're new though... i have no "IN"...

I didn't think that many LEOs, retired or active lived in LA County. A lot of retired CA LEOs & FD live in western Colorado. I know several.

Since you just got there, is living in Hollywood a must? If I had a choice and it wasn't a difficult commute to work, I would live in the OC in a heartbeat.

yes, right now living in hollywood is a must. in fact, i would rather live a little closer to the ocean, being as that is where I'm working. the commute sucks as it is, and if i moved to OC, i would be spending 4 hours every day traveling to and from work. i just don't want to lose that much time.

I don't know if anyone has already suggested this to you in private, but if you do decide to go through with an application and get denied, please contact Team Billy Jack with the info. This explains why.

If you can help turn our state around, we'll all be in your debt.
