Default Alameda County...What Are The Chances?

Well guys, it's just possible that I will be offered a contract job (NO, not that kind of a contract ) in Pleasanton that could run up to two years. If it works out I may hafta become Ken_In_Calif.

Anyway, who might know what the CCW climate is like up there?

Ouch. Anything close to the Bay Area isn't good. Can you maybe commute from San Joaquin County? They might be better.

If at all possible, don't move to Alameda County or Contra Costa county. CCW issuance is about a snowball's chance in hades. If you're willing to drive a bit, you'd probably be better off living in Madera County or something like that. None of the Bay Area Counties are good about issuing CCW's.

I think treb5 who posts here occasionally lives in San Joaquin County. He might be able to answer regional questions better than some of us Southerners.

I live in Alameda Co. The last time I checked, the Sheriff had a two year residency in the County, not sure if that still applies. But he does require a $1M bond in his name, I believe that both are illegal, but those are the rules. Contra Costa Co. is worse. It will also take you a year to get it even if you are one of the lucky few who can jump through all of their hoops and have a good enough GC, which is almost impossible. In Fremont, the CLEO only has two outstanding permits in the city. Alameda, CoCo, and SF Co's are some of the worst in the state, right up there with LA. As far as driving in from out the the county, i.e. San Joaquin, you are looking at least a 1 1/2 hour commute each way.

Kinda what I thought.

$1,000,000.00 bond! For what?

To cover his a** in case you do something stupid and he gets sued. Fremont PD does the same thing. It is also illegal, but no one has taken them to court over it.

You got it Toyota. Coming in from Tracy over the Altimont pass on 580 is a bi*** during commute hours, only about 30-35 miles. That's about as close as you can get outside the county. I know people that drive in from Tracy to San Ramon (mayby 3 miles further), and their commute is at least 1 hour 15 minutes at best, and that is coming in at 5:00 AM and leaving by 3:00 PM. Traffic from that area has gotten really bad, everyone moving out that way for less expensive housing, not even cheap any more.

That's the worst part... even the OTHER ways around the 580 traffic jam are getting traffic jams...

For sure! That commute they're talking about sounds almost as bad as folks trying to commute into OC from the Inland Empire.

I have to drive from Fresno area to the Bay Area for work once in awhile. It's only 2 1/2 hours driving since I drive it the day before and stay the night. From Los Banos, through Gilroy to San Jose is 3 hours during commute and that's starting 1 hour closer. The Northern corridor that is described earlier is horrible.

I have to be in Pleasonton for an 8 AM meeting tomorrow. I'm driving over this afternoon and staying in a motel. 3 hour drive that way. Meeting is over at 3:30 PM tomorrow. Coming back I get to commute with everyone else East to get to I-5 South. Winds up being a 4 1/2 return trip. Just added to the cost of living where you can afford to and would rather because of urban sprawl.

Not completely impossible, I acquired my CCW late last year in the Alameda County. Yeah, it's not easy, it takes a long time, and I had to purchased 1 million dollars of liability insurance, but it's well worth all the hard effort to finally get it.

How much is that insurance policy per year? I heard that it was $200-300.
