Though CalCCW.com has recently ventured more into the political arena regarding California CCW our first and foremost mission is still to increase CCW issuance throughout California by assisting others in obtaining a California CCW within the confines of existing California Laws. To this end, CalCCW.com has been very successful and continues to contribute to increasing CCW issuance in California “One CCW at a Time”.
The subject of Non-Resident Concealed Weapons Permits comes up regularly. Though Non-Resident CCWs are likewise not our focus here, a large number of California Residents do have and value non-resident CCWs issued by Utah, Florida or other states. It is safe to say that the ability to lawfully carry a concealed firearm and having the choice to exercise that ability is very important to most, if not all, members of this forum. This is the reason so many of us have invested in the time, expense, and training required to receive a CA CCW and have accepted the personal sacrifices that accompany having a CCW. Many of us also travel regularly outside the boundaries of California for business, pleasure, or personal reasons. The personal responsibility we have taken for our own safety and the safety of our loved ones does not end at the state line. Consistent with this many of us have invested in the time, expense, and training required to receive non-resident CCWs that allow us to continue to legally carry a concealed firearm in those other states we may frequent, if we so desire. There is no question that the Utah CCW is the most popular, due primarily to the large number of states that accept the Utah CCW. The Florida CCW is also very popular as well. Not only because it is also accepted in a large number of states, but because it is signed by the Commissioner of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, who’s name happens to be “Charles H. Bronson”. Effective July 1, 2009, Nevada stopped honoring both Utah and Florida CCWs. Nevada CCWs have always been popular because of the state’s proximity to California and the fact that many California residents visit Nevada regularly for work or pleasure. The fact that Nevada no longer honors Utah or Florida CCWs has increased the popularity of the Nevada CCW. Here is a link describing this change: http://www.calccw.com/Forums/general...tml#post153143. The Oregon CCW is gaining in popularity among California residents who visit Oregon regularly for work or pleasure. Oregon is a “Shall Issue” state for all residents of the state of Oregon. Oregon also issues non-resident CCWs to residents of the four states that share its borders, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and California. Here is a link describing my personal experience in obtaining an Oregon Non-Resident CCW: http://www.calccw.com/Forums/general...tml#post137681. Until July 1st, 2009 those of us who had both a California CCW and a Utah CCW could legally carry a concealed firearm throughout the entire contiguous western United States with the exception of the State of Oregon. Many south central and south eastern states also allow us to legally carry a concealed firearm, if we desired. This was a very comforting security blanket for us, marred primarily by the hole in it represented by the state of Oregon. As of July 1st, 2009 any California resident possessing a California, Utah, Nevada, and Oregon CCW could legally carry a concealed firearm throughout the entire contiguous western United States, as well as, the majority of south central and south eastern states. Many thanks to the other forum members who provided guidance and recommendations to me regarding this post, your insight were invaluable. Thanks again, Poogsdad
