Default Peace officers right to carry?

I know LEO's are permitted to carry off duty but what about sworn peace officers that do other jobs? Probation officers, corrections officers and juvinile corrections officers? These officers dont carry guns while on duty since it is illegal to carry one in a facility and only some probation officers are armed and all tend to make a few enemies during employment so do they have the right to carry a firearm off duty? Especially when they feel their life can be threatened? What are the laws behind this? Hopefully im clear on what i'm asking...

"Sworn" means you raised your right hand and swore to uphold the laws and such. The penal code defines what a peace officer is, and the department decides policy on firearms.

The LEOSA has the definitions and requirements listed in it.
Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A department policy may forbid carrying off duty. I wouldn't want to work for them.

Wait I thought Corrections fell under LEOSA.

It's pretty broad on purpose.

LEOSA applies if the officer is carrying on duty during their career ... check wikipedia for the rules on leosa... it is a pretty good summary...

As to Probation Officers... I are one.... .....There is an attorney generals opinion that says we are peace officers 24/7 and that our chief cannot prevent our obtaining a ccw to carry off duty... however I live in Kern and am an armed on duty peace officer.... therefore, since I qualify pursuant to State law, I can carry off duty too...alot of our officers have ccw's... myself included... as many other counties don't have armed probation employees and they cannot carry without a ccw.... so we basically avoid problems by having a ccw... LEOSA still applies and our dept. recently changed our ID cards to assist officers in not getting into trouble per LEOSA....

Does that help?

How about obtaining a TRO against this person(s)? Ask CCWI about the CCW aspect of having one against someone. There may be something there.

The problem is that there has been no direct threat that I can write a report on or verify through other officers. Just the fact that i have to testify against someone that may get this person life that he would only get about 5 years if I dont and the fact that due to his attitude and based on my schooling as a professional MFT (in the process of obtaining), I feel that he could harm my life without ever making a threat by using his fellow Gang members.

if this post is not ok please delete it. I dont know another way to discuss my situation and I feel as if it is an urgent one.
