Default Sonoma CCW story

This was found on another ccw forum. The story was interesting enough for me to take the time to post it here. I don't personally know the author so I can't confirm their story but from my knowledge of Sonoma County it sounds about right.
---------

Well I am new to this forum. I can tell you from very recent personal expearience about my Sonoma County CCW. I live in the city of Sonoma.
A few years ago,the citizens of Sonoma voted to have the Sherriff take over the police services. So in lamens terms Sherriff rules so to speak now apply. So a bit over two years ago,I put this unbelieveable packet together. CCW app.,updated resume, character refernces and letters, and a few other things. I submitted it to the Sherriffs office in Santa Rosa,Ca.
And I was granted my CCW with the restrictiion of: may only carry conceal in the state of California while performing the duties of an Executive Protection Agent.
So forward two years to this past June when my CCW was to be renewed. I took a private CCW renewal class...aced it. Submitted what I needed to. Waited d___ near two months for a response. Which was a denial. Was left a voicemail that stated I was allowed to appeal. I finally got the captain who originally signed off on my CCW to call me. He said there was no appeal process. I kept it very professional, and told him that I could provide impeccable reference letters from current/former military, and law enforcement. I asked him: Captain ####### if I had a
character referece letter from the President of the United States...He said:
Mr.X,it would not do you any good. And then he said: Mr.X, if a
Ca CCW is that important to your living...take no offense Mr.X but you will need to move to a friendlier county. Funny thing is he was the one
who originally signed off on my packet. :]
Please excuse the long wind here. One last thing...I told this story to a
long time active Sherriff friend of mine. He said: Just to let you know ,the attitude towards granting new CCW'S,or even renewals is much different now than even two years ago.
That has me thinking, that Sonoma County will become as hard to get a CCW as S.F. County, and L.A.
It looks like I will need to move.

You need to move from some of the most beautiful country ever created because you got a CCW denial?

If he wants to protect himself, earn a living and enjoy his rights....yes I suppose.

Can I just ask, for the honest sake of discussion and not trying to offend, why anyone would move to another state because of CCW or gun laws? I've heard this so many times on other forums, or people in other states telling Californians to move out of state because they can't have _____ gun. I just don't get it. I want a CCW and full house AR15 in LA as much as the next person, but I wouldn't dream of uprooting myself even to another county because of not being able to have this. There's far too much to offer in this state, and I travel quite heavily around the US for work (so I have quite a good idea of what's out there), to simply move out because of gun laws. Why succumb to boredom or lack of diversity? Live where there's a pulse! This is, of course, my opinion and nothing more. I say this in all honesty, CA gun laws are very upsetting to me, but you get so much more out of life with the diversity this state offers. I don't know - I just feel on all the gun forums I'm the only one that's pro-California. And I'm in LA, which is quite notorious for it's extremes. When I hear someone who lives in Sonoma wanting to move because they can't have a CCW, which is surrounded by some of the most picturesque vineyards and country side in the world, I don't know.....I guess you can go live in the desert where it's hot and hellish and carry a concealed gun and shoot assault weapons. Don't get me wrong, that's fun to do and I love doing it, but I don't want to make a life out of it. To each their own.

I'm a native Californian. I love...absolutely LOVE where I live now. Still...when I get multiple bills from the Franchise Tax Board, $600 dollar DMV registration bills for my pickup truck....can't own the rifles I want or I'm going to live in a cage for 7 years and lose my family....have to endure stupid signs "click it or ticket"on the hwy...gay marriage and sex carnivals in the Cow Palace, but gun shows are bad....laws requiring you to fix your dog against your will...stupid penal codes left and right and nut cases everywhere you travel here...Pot's legal, but a 13 round mag isn't....You know: a wide variety of Bull**** here...I could go on and on.

I get tired of it all and talk about moving to AZ, ID or NV. Yet...here I am...still here....still loving where I live and pissed off that we can't eject all the liberalism here in my beloved state of California.

RomanDad is right. It's time to take a stand.

It's kinda like the old story of the Frog in the pot of boiling water. If you drop a frog into a pot of boiling water he'll jump out. If you put him in the pot and gradually raise the temperature of the water until it boils the frog will sit their until he's cooked.
California is slowly boiling. The state is run by a bunch of loons. California's are the definition of insanity. We continue to elect the same idiots but expect different results.
Why are people thinking of leaving the state? Probably because they are tired of living in an insane world.
Some of you act as if Californnia is the only nice place to live in the country. I have news for you, it isn't. There are 49 other states and some of them are quite wonderful.
BTW I for one think being able to protect yourself and your family is a valid reason for thinking of leaving the state. But then that's just me. Other people may not feel that way. Hopefully they'll never have to put that to the test.

Don't kid yourself. The only thing this State really has to offer that isn't easy to find in other states is it's great weather, and you more than pay for it with all the BS you have to put up with from the corrupt govt that runs it, and the restrictions on freedom that are imposed.

I may not make the income in another state that I make here, but I also won't have to pay 750,000 for a 150,000 home, either.

Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Virginia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania are all gorgeous as well, and your range can easily be your back porch.

+1

Where I am at the skiing is some of the best in the world which is one reason I am still here. Family and local support group also come into play as well. I have lived in Mammoth since 74 and it is home.

$600 here = $1,200 in Arizona. Plus your insurance would double. Corporate tax rate is almost the same. You'll get speeding tickets in the mail for doing 66 on a 65 mph freeway. The governor is a leftist, supports all the same liberal causes you listed in your post, and there is a much larger illegal alien problem than here. The weather sucks year round - 4 out of 7 years there, the winters were cold, blustery and rainy, not warm and sunny. Auto theft rates are the highest in the US. Crime is everywhere, even in the "nice" sections.

CCW shall issue? Sure, but you can't carry anywhere that serves alcohol on premise. Pretty much the only restaurant you can legally CCW is IHOP. Not coincidentally, restaurant parking lots are the #1 place for muggings in Phoenix. Not to mention auto break-ins.

Look at it this way. A lot of CCW applicants apply because they have danger against their life, either through their living or from ex-boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife. then having the state tell you they do not trust you to exercise a right that is granted to every american. Would you live in a picturesque place if your first amendment rights wer being infringed? How about living in a beautiful place yet the state makes you worship the religion they choose? At what point would you pack your posessiona and leave? So you've seen that some people don't want to live under an opressive government, I can't blame them. I will be moving to Washington when I can swing it. But for now I am here and being as active as possible protecting the 2nd.

Which part? I lived there 7+ years. Ok, the 66 ticket in a 65 only happens in Scottsdale, but the rest applies to the entire Phoenix valley.

I guess my point is that I really didn't understand how low the quality of life was in Arizona until I moved to Orange County. When I hear people complain around here, or even question the cost of living myself, I think back to life in Phoenix/Scottsdale Arizona and suddenly a calm comes over me and a smile comes to my face
