Question Sig P225 Approved for sale in CA?

I have a couple of people looking for an inexpensive handgun for personal defense. They were looking at this: AIM Sig Sauer P225/P6 9mm Pistol Sig Sauer P225/P6 9mm Pistol Are the Sig 225s approved for CA import?

Any other recommendations for a reliable inexpensive firearm around $350-400.

The Sig 225 is on the approved list - Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale - Firearms Division - California Dept. of Justice - Office of the Attorney General

Sorry, I have no recommendations on firearms at that price. If a Sig was selling for that much, I'd pick one up.

You also might want to narrow you choices too by determining if you want a revolver or semi-automatic handgun. I know of a place up here that could sell a Springfield XD new for about $580-590 OTD. Other than that, you can tried used like you did with the Sig, but it has to be on the CA Drop list. Good luck to you!

About the only other reliable guns in that price range are going to be factory-reconditioned Glocks, and those are hard to get in CA for some reason. The ones I see here are usually marked up way above that.

I have one of the P6/P225 Sigs, and it's a great little gun for the price. You can't beat it.

Thanks, I appreciate the review on the Sig, I dont have any experience with that model, but I continue to hear good things. I have two friends looking to buy handguns. They dont know much about firearms, they have shot my XDs and liked them, and are currently shopping around for a good deal. If they were willing to go a little bit higher price wise, they could really get into quality handguns. Caliber wise they both like the 9mm, and they seem to prefer semi automatics.

One of them had his home broken into, the alarm seemed to scare the crooks away this time. I guess its kind of a wake up call for him and his fiancee.

libertarian, are the grip sizes about the same as the 226 or 229?

The guys are more interested in semi automatics. They liked my XDs, but balked at the price. I just dont want them to end up with some unreliable crap, so I am just asking around if you guys know of any inexpensive reliable handguns.

If the weapon is on the CA drop list, they would be able to purchase it online and ship to a ffl for the transfer correct?

Correct. There are some new and obnoxious hoops the shipper has to jump through, some of them are refusing to ship from out of state to CA.

The biggest question for your situation is - is used acceptable? I'd lean toward a factory recon Glock, but the Sig is not a bad choice.

AIM is a reputable dealer. IIRC, a few forum members have bought those SIG's and liked them a lot.

My brother got one, and he likes it. The DA is not as smooth as I would like, but otherwise it's a great firearm. It has external, holster wear, but internally it's practically new.

There's a thread elsewhere on this site. I don't have time now to look for it, but it has a lot of info.

I bought two. Both from AIM. One looks like new, the other one has slight holster marks. Mechanically they are close to 100%. IMHO they are the best handgun deal out there right now.

The grip is small due to the single stack design. If you want to 'feel' one first call some of the stores.

The wait can be long. My second one took about 2 or 3 months before they shipped it.

D/A trigger is heavy. Some women may have trouble with it. My wife could not do DA trigger on the one I have. Very accurate and in good condition other than holster wear and obviously not respected. Mine was full of lint. S/A is another story, excellent. Only 8+1 rounds for the size! If you can refinish it it would be perfect. I'd go with a Glock! They have a consistent trigger! You can buy used, for a a reasonable price!....Now, I am ready for the bashing......
Remember, test drive before buy!
