Default Incident Stats

I'm assuming the new OCSD boss is worried that "regular" folks wouldn't be able to safely handle the responsibility of carrying a firearm in public. Has anyone ever charted the stats related to LEO "off duty" firearm incidents Vs CCW firearm incidents? I'm not talking about someone with a CCW getting his yanked because he printed at the supermarket, I'm talking about people who do stupid stuff like brandish or threaten. I have to believe that since an off duty LEO has a badge they are less likely to walk away from a minor altercation as it just goes against their training (control the situation), and is probably a huge ego buster, whereas the fellow with the CCW is trained to turn the other cheek and keep walking.

I guess since my permit expired last week I'm starting a slow burn..........on the day it expired I had to let a women go at work (I work in Compton), and that afternoon I received an angry call from her husband, every other word was f&^%. He never threatened me directly but it was a sober reminder that I wasn't in Huntington Beach anymore!!! My head has been on a swivel since then and I keep my blinds closed at work as my office faces the street.
But hey........the LASD in Carson is only 15 minutes away....I'm perfectly safe!!

Default I'm with you

I work up in LA at Washington and Santa Fe once a week. Not Compton, but not a neighborhood you would let your family hang out.

Begging patience, I think the Heller decision is going to impact us in ways we could only hope for before it.

This is a temporary solution. Better than nothing at all.

You CAN carry inside your place of business. Then when you walk to your car, bring a baseball bat.

And a glove and ball. Remember that bat is only for recreational reasons and you are on your way to the game/practice.

Yes. Instead check out the Cold Steel walking sticks. Dense polymer of some type. I tried it out on my heavy (80 lb) kicking bag and it held up with no problem. I got the African Walking Stick.

Those African walking sticks look pretty handy but in Compton you need one of these Compton Running Sticks,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The parking lot should also be private property.

AFRICAN WALKING STICK
The Cold Steel walking sticks are good products. One upon a time, I used a Cold Steel Sword Cane daily which is visually almost identical to the walking stick.

I no longer reside in that particular state and as a resident of California, posession of a Cold Steel Sword Cane is illegal.

I am a disabled veteran and use a cane daily. I have been using Cane Masters canes for many years and can recommend them very highly. I have many canes from Cane Masters. My daily use cane is a "Professor's Cane" that was build specifically for me as a gift.

Their products are very well made and their customer service is very responsive.

For those of you who are currently unable to recieve a CCW. A conventional appearing cane with a crook is a very viable alternative that is socially acceptable and does not draw attention to the user like carrying a baseball bat or tire iron when you are not actually going to/from a ball game or changing a tire. The crook also gives a level of functionality and applicability to self defence that is absent in a cane without a crook, such as the Cold Steel Walking Stick.

Though I am disabled and use the cane primarily to help me walk more normally. I would still use a cane daily if I were not disabled.

The history of the cane and it's place in society is facinating. I do encourage anyone to look at the cane as a replacement for or supplement to a firearm, whether you have a CCW or not.

Here is the URL for Cane Masters again: canes

Thanks,

Not really. Unless it's fenced off, it's readily accessible to the public.

AFRICAN WALKING STICK
Nice Walking Stick and the fact that it is made from polypropylene it could last forever. At just over 1 1/2 pounds probably quite formidable as well.

I also really like the Compton Running Stick, I have one of those in my Nevada home as a Homeland Defense Rifle along with a stack of 30 round mags. I didn't acquire it soon enough to grandfather it in California before the ban, such a shame. Maybe with the laws changing due to the Heller Decision sometime in the future it will be legal to let it travel across the imaginary line called the state border.

Canes,,, some beautiful canes and also quite useful for reasons beyond support while cruising the streets if necessary. It is a shame California law prohibits the sword canes. One of those sure would get the BG's attention if he were to create a situation where it was necessary to unsheathe it, maybe a little Z as in Zorro on the seat of his pants as he turns to flee.

One of my projects when I was learning CAD was an elegant, 6 shot 20 gauge shotgun cane. I regret I'll never get to build it.
