Default Charter Letters

Things are good outside of California...Just got back from a road trip to Utah, Nevada and Arizona, carried the entire time. I am working on my California CCW but ran into a bit of road block...Riverside Sheriff requires 3 Character reference letters stating you have the proper character to carry a concealed weapon. My problem is, my professional circles that include a lot of my friends are not to keen on guns, much less carrying one. Any suggestions,

Hugh Hewitt and John Eastman, from Chapman's law school, might be philosophically inclined to help.

Any TA's that need to suck up to you? Someone that you're a thesis adviser to?

Any friends that shoot with you, people from church or worship, any community service groups that you are a member of? You are not limited to just your professional circle.

What you need is people who've known you for the last few years (e.g., at least 5) so that they can reasonably and personally attest to your present good sound responsible character, especially for carrying a concealed firearm. You can feel out some friends by initially asking how they'd feel about you merely getting training with the guns you own. If they aren't turned off, you can push further. Not every liberal is against guns. (In 2006, the NRA backed some 500 Democrats for state and national office.) A lot of liberals believe in self-defense, so allow yourself to be surprised.

Great advice!

Good luck to you!
