What does their website say, if anything? Or TSA's site?

I actually took Amtrak last week. I was not carrying though as we were heading to a ballgame in San Diego and I knew I would have a beer or two. I do know there are no metal detectors. I felt a little naked unarmed. Something that locks you up with hundreds of other people and does NOT have proper security scares me.

Anyway good idea to check TSA or their site to be sure.

It's been a while.... but I don't think that it's legally OK to be armed while on AMTRAK...

Prohibited Items

The following kinds of items are prohibited as both checked and carry-on baggage:

Any type of gun, firearm, ammunition, explosives, or weapon.
Incendiaries, including flammable gases, liquids and fuels.
Large, sharp objects such as axes, ice picks and swords.
Corrosive or dangerous chemicals or materials, such as liquid bleach, tear gas, mace, radioactive and harmful bacteriological materials.
Batteries with acid that can spill or leak (except those batteries used in motorized wheelchairs or similar devices for mobility-impaired passengers).
Club-like items, such as billy clubs and nightsticks.
Fragile and/or valuable items, including but not limited to electronic equipment. (Laptop computers and handheld devices may be carried onboard; however, Amtrak accepts no liability for damage.)
Animals (except service animals).
Oversized and/or overweight items.
No doubt about it, against Amtrak's policy. But is it against the law "Federal or State" with a valid CCW? Policy means if made, they kick you off the train at the next stop and maybe bar you from life from traveling on Amtrak.

Against the law you go to jail, lose your CCW for life and we all know ignorance of the law is no defense.

From TSA site. Not much help as it links you to Amtrak's site. Must dig deeper.

Default Prohibited Carry is Wide Spread

Hi Folks,
I am new to this forum, but not new to sorting out where Carry is limited.

From reading transportation web postings for airlines, cruse ships, city buses, Grayhound, BART, trains, SF Bay ferries, taxies, etc. Packing is forbiden in all. And only allowed in airline luggage per well defined rules. This includes firearms, peper spray, stun-guns, knives, etc. The owners and managers may be armed or guarded, but to allow the general ridership to possess self defensive tools is disallowed.

Travel by airline or private vehicle has limitations but seems to be more tollerated at this point. If we lose the airlines then, travel will be greatly hampered.

Do your homework, know the limits, follow instincts, stay out of crowded venues and always be prepared - carry everywhere legal and everywhere needed. But ensure you keep a low profile.

Be confident, be watchfull and above all be safe.

So far we have a few opinions on the post topic but nothing codified.

The Cal PC 171.5 (a) speaks specifically to possession of weapons in, and provides definition of, "Sterile Areas" of Airport and Passenger Vessel Terminals. No mention of Amtrak nor RTD/OCTD (buses).
I find nothing in California PC nor TSA Regs specifically prohibiting CCW by those authorized per PC 12050 in Amtrak terminals or in their rail cars. So, IMHO this is a don't ask/don't tell situation. However opinions and well intended advice don't always count when it comes to staying out of jail.

I'd like to see this question addressed by someone "in the know":
What charge(s) could be filed against a CCW License holder found to have a concealed weapon on his/her person, while a passenger on Amtrak or OCTD/RTD?
