As a CCW permit holder and a Amtrak Employee, I believe that one of the things missed in this thread is that Amtrak does not own the equipment that is operates for the Sate of California. IE: Capitol Corridor, San Joaquin's, Surf liners, and San Diego n's. This equipment was purchased by the people of California and managed by Cal-Tran's. All Amtrak does is supply the operating crews, maintenance people and the managers. So, my point is, it may be Amtrak policy, that does not make it a LAW. The above trains operate and travel in California only, so are governed by California law. If you are packing with a CA CCW, and manage to drop your piece, or otherwise make it known you are armed, you will most likely be explaining to the local law enforcement personal at the next station. Your chances of explaining to a Amtrak PO are slim, as the have less than 20 in CA. I would believe that this would also apply to Metro link, BART, Metro, ETC. Now for Amtrak long distance trains, all bets are off. After 911 someone in Washington had a knee jerk reaction and decreed no firearms even in checked luggage. Up till that time we carried them as checked luggage in the bag car all the time for customers.

A little side note. I took Amtrak last weekend to the Del Mar races from Anaheim. When we were heading back at the Solana station to board you had to go by a check point with about 4 Amtrak LEOs with a dog checking ID and I think looking for drunk people returning from the race track.
I asked one of the LEOs "packing a Glock 22" if they were Federal officers. She said they were Federal and State officers, whatever that means. I was going to ask her about CCW but it seemed if I did I might be in for a cavity check. LOL |
