"They" must be changing things....maybe to make sure that you do have all paperwork finished prior to placing the call to set up the interview date? .... if you call and they ask you to bring the stuff in instead, and you really do not have it ready....in other words you called to get a slot months ahead while you finish your paperwork......Sayonara? Very strange!!!
This is a departure from prior procedure.
I will have to find out. Stay tuned!
I confirmed earlier this week that you do not turn in you application until your interview date.

on the 4 additional references, they get letters from the SB Sheriff, is it still the case that everyone you provide as a reference, must provide their own references also?

I don't recall my references needing references.

How exactly would that work. Wouldn't you end up in a reductio ad absurdum?

I remember two of my references, both lifelong friends[20+years], were asked for more references. Be prepared for more 'stuff' at your face to face, including more paperwork. They are very thorough and your honesty is of the highest priority; they're looking deep and wide to see if you are truly qualified mentally, emotionally and psycologically mature. Enough said.

One of my references said that the form asks him to list additional people that can provide information about me, but it says "if possible" which to me means it is optional.

OH! Ok, more references for the applicant. That makes sense. I was thinking it was asking the references for references for the references, and that was making my brain hurt.

I've been doing backgrounds for over 20 years. I always ask every person I'm interviewing for further references. They're known in the business as "developed references." They're the best sources of information. Usually I get more than I need, but I never stop asking.

In subject interviews I always ask the subject for more names, that he didn't include on the questionnaire. Then I ask, "Who is your best friend?" After that, "Who knows you best?" If they name people already on the questionnaire, I say, Ok, who knows you best after the people you listed on the questionnaire. Often, that's where I start.

Mind you, the backgrounds I do aren't for CCW's. If you work in the aerospace industry in SoCal, you may recognize my techniques.

This could become like a pyramid. SBSD wants 3 letters of recommendation, plus 4 other persons to be used as reference.
Logics dictates that if there are more people involved with the paperwork, then it will take additional processing time. Fortunately, since it is optional it is not necessary for such to take place!. ( I hope!)

An investigator showed up at my front door unannounced yesterday afternoon. Caught me a little off gaurd as I wasn't expecting them to come to my house. He asked me for my name and something that could prove that I live at my address (which I already provided at the interview) and then he poked around the neighborhood for a few minutes before leaving. I'm not sure if he spoke to any of my neighbors. I just moved into my house a few months ago, and I don't want my neighbors thinking the cops are after me.

Crap! You did me!

I had to cycle with you about three times for little financial clarifications, and apologised for being so difficult. You said I was easy, compared with guys that had been married 3 times and had 3 sets of in-laws that hated them
