Come on now.
You are on your way to becoming a LEO. Hopefully you have a bit longer in the academy to learn.
You just asked a basic question about legallity of buying / owning high cap mags and also posed alternatives to following the law. All of which you should have known were illegal.
Please do not pull me over.

Actions speak louder than words and while I may be speaking aloud and freely about something that frustrates me, it doesn't mean I intend to or have begun to cross the line into what would be considered unethical. This is by the way a forum where one can share and express different ideas and points of view. I guess my posts seemed a bit too serious for some.....maybe I should also include J/K's, LOL's, and so I won't be taken so serious. But point taken, I wouldn't want a bend-the-law prick pulling me over either. I guess thats's where we're different.......former Navy / former Marine.

Your friend would be commiting a crime if he did that.

Keep in mind that this is a public forum and we are the good guys. When a member suggest or devise a way to circumvent the laws, it reflects poorly on us all. We are somewhat anal about this for a very good reason. We joke about many things here. However, violating the law is not one of them.

If you did not possess them before the ban.

They were either:

given to you after the ban=illegal
imported into state after the ban=illegal
bought from someone in state after the ban=illegal

Am I missing something??????

Info found on THR

For magazines 10+ capacity
Quote:
12020. (a) Any person in this state who does any of the following is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or in the state prison:
(1) [snip]
(2) Commencing January 1, 2000, manufactures or causes to be
manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or
exposes for sale, or who gives, or lends, any large-capacity
magazine.

To clarify a bit here, if you owned high-cap mags prior to 2000, you have the legal right to use and own those mags. If they wear out and need to be repaired, you can buy parts to repair them. There is no limit to the individual piece parts that you can repair, only that you owned a part that was manufactured and owned prior to 2000.

I got it, that is the same law on the books. I thought you were talking about some new law that banned the possetion of high cap mags.

IIRC no law on the books bans the possession of high caps.

You must have owned the mags BEFORE Jan 1, 2000. No way to legally own them after that date. Unless one is a LEO. LEO may have them for personal/professional use.

Beano said it best!

+1.
You are the new guy here, right?
Most of us are ccw holders. We consider ourself trustworthy, law abiding citizens with good moral character. You have just proven that you do not fall into that category. If this was my house you would now be shown the door.

What does this have to do with CCW?

MODS, please lock or delete this.

And Alex...don't do it. Good luck in the academy.
