Gentle persuasion publicly until private conversation or public actions reveal her true colors.
Hutchens came out of LAPD but she is an OC resident.
Gentile steady pressure until she does something to warrant otherwise.

I think this, in particular, "pose the question each and every time she makes a public speech to a citizen's organization" has merit. If we start showing up (different members of course) at various events and asking tis question, it will demonstrate to her that CCW is a major issue in OC. What do you think?

Somebody owes me a dollar.

THE Gimper really IS an evil genious!
Needless to say, that is exactly what catches her attention.
"Gee, everywhere I go, people are asking me about my stance on CCW."

Anyone got a schedule of her public appearances?

She probably does not have one yet. There must be some OC members of this forum that belong to civic organizations such as the Rotary, Kawianas, Optomists, or Lions, that have breakfast meetings at local restuarants. Invite her to your gun club meetings. Be very warm, fuzzy, and non-confrontational. Ask whoever is in charge of inviting guest speakers to schedule her. Be cautious about who is picked to politely ask about her CCW policies. It can't be the same person(s) over and over, or else you'll just be dismissed as a single issue gadfly. My point in getting to her early in the game is to establish a mind-set for her. Kind of like "first come-first served." Have her wondering, "Gee, I had no idea that so many Orange County residents felt so passionately about the 2nd ammendment, and CCW. In LA County it seemed like a non-issue." At Christmas time, get together, take up a collection, and buy her a lifetime membership in her name to the NRA.

BUT: only if it can be done cleanly, openly, and entirely within the rules.
The opposition will undoubtedly make issue of such a gift, and it could end badly.
This one needs some thinking and coordination to pull off, if even possible.

I'm just putting out some suggestions. Check with your local NRA Rep. Do whatever you feel is best and are comfortable with. My biggest concern right now, is with the fall-out from Sheriff Carona. I don't know Mike Carona, and have no opinion as to his guilt or innocence. What matters is that the OC Board of Supervisors, your local State Assemblyperson, and Senators, along with many of the OC public do believe the the Sheriff's Dept. is tainted, and want some evidence of reform. She is working under a magnifying glass right now. Beliving that a new broom sweeps clean, the new Sheriff, wishing to distance herself from the charge of "cronyism", might see CCW as an easy sacrifical cow to slaughter. Thereby displaying evidence of proactive reform. You absolutely need to let her know that such an action will not go unnoticed, and that it isn't just one or two cows, but a very large and vocal herd; that votes.

Okay off my soapbox.

I think thats a good idea, as long as the question is worded well (Two different people hearing "what do you plan to do about CCWs?" One hears "Will you leave the program alone?" the other hears "Theyre a major problem and you need to stop them!") that questions are appropriate, and that its handled respectfully.

I think the NRA thing is a bad idea.

Agreed on the NRA thing.

The questions need to be very leading. "Los Angeles issues CCWs primarily to the wealthy and famous, OC issues to ordinary people with a good cause. Will you keep the OC program as it is, or move toward LA's standard?"
