Default Where can I carry Experiance

Quote:
Q: Can a CA CCW holder carry concealed at a gun show?

No! Carrying CCW at a gun show in CA is illegal!

Penal Code 12071.4 [Gun Show Enforcement and Security Act of 2000]

Quote:

...

(g) No person at a gun show or event, other than security
personnel or sworn peace officers, shall possess at the same time
both a firearm and ammunition that is designed to be fired in the
firearm. Vendors having those items at the show for sale or
exhibition are exempt from this prohibition.

...

(j) All firearms carried onto the premises of a gun show or event
by members of the public shall be checked, cleared of any ammunition,
secured in a manner that prevents them from being operated, and an
identification tag or sticker shall be attached to the firearm, prior
to the person being allowed admittance to the show...
I just read that in the "Where can I carry Section".
So I thought I would share an experiance I had at Cal Expo.

A couple of shows ago at Cal Expo I carried my CCW weapon to the show.
I told the Officer at the check in desk I had a CCW permit and was carrying and asked what would he like me to do.
He then asked his superviser a Female officer what to do.
She asked to see my Weapon, I cleared it and then handed it to her.
She inspected it and then returned it to me and told the other officer to allow me to keep it concealed, Yes Loaded and Chambered.
She looked at me and said, "You never know when you may need it".
She never asked me for my Permit.

At the Reno Show they always have me unload the Weapon and give my wife the loaded mags to put in her purse. If she is not with me I give Security my mags and pick them up when I leave.

let me try to understand this a little better; You have a CA CCW and you went to a Gun Show in CA with your CCW firearm on you. You TOLD whomever was at the front, officer or not that you had your firearm, then you unholstered, handed them the LOADED weapon and then they handed it back to you.

i don't even know where to start....

He cleared it first.

It wouldn't surprise me terribly if a security guard, standing in front of an enormous sign saying "NO GUNS" didn't know they weren't supposed to allow guns in.

I suppose the good news here is that though you just admitted to a crime, a first offense is only an infraction.

Youre lucky ANOTHER cop didnt later arrest you and charge you with violation 12071.

The fact that the first person said "it was ok" doesnt MAKE IT OK.... A police officer CANNOT authorize you to violate the law. And the fact that the first cop said it was cool, wouldnt make a damned bit of difference to the D.A. She acted outside of her authority when she did it, and the crime is still on you.

You got away with one! Be happy and "stop twice next time."

Actually it was more than a few shows ago, it was before 2000, so I guess that is the reason the officer let me keep it.
Also I did clear the handgun first, I did not hand the Officer a Loaded handgun. The officer was a Sac county Sheriff.
My point was that she did not ask for my Permit.

I have seen stuff like that from the State Fair Police. They are interesting folks. It AMAZES me that a Sac Deputy would do that. They KNOW better. I even had a confrontation with one at a church once...
