Default CA: Ammo ID Check Bill Passes Committee

--> Bill would require checks on people buying bullets
Quote:
SACRAMENTO -- California would become the first state in the nation to require instant background checks on handgun bullet buyers under an anti-gang bill that cleared its first, key hurdle Tuesday.

The Assembly's Public Safety Committee approved AB362, sponsored by Los Angeles officials and backed by Bay Area authorities concerned about California's increasing gun violence.

"It's unbelievable it's harder to buy a can of spray paint than bullets, and that a gang-banger can walk into a sporting goods store and walk out with a crate of ammunition, no questions asked," Assemblyman Kevin de Leon, the Los Angeles Democrat who authored the bill, told committee members.

"It's time to put an end to this Wild West mentality."

The bill is supported by numerous gun-control advocates and opposed by an array of organizations such as the California Rifle and Pistol Association. [...]

under the proposal, starting next year all handgun ammunition buyers would have to provide identification to sellers, who would pass the information to the state. [...]

The bill also would require:

-Handgun ammunition vendors to be licensed with the Justice Department.

-Sellers and employees to undergo background checks. [...]
This last provision will likely end Wal-Mart ammo sales.

Guess if I ever need any ammo when in Cali, I'll just have to drive back across the border (NV) and spend my $$$ instead. Letsee..... Id for ammo, microstamping of ammo.... what else do these idiots have up their sleeves?? Oh, I know.... I will have to place my photoid on each bullet, hoping the "mushroom effect" doesnt ruin my looks too bad...

Just got back an hour ago from a state capital tour with my daughters 4th grade class.

I could see a liberalism cloud over the capital. We set in the Senate Chamber gallery. I stopped short of chanting "long live CCW!!!". LOL

Sounds like this bill will not only end Wally World ammo purchases, but probably Internet purchases as well.

Back to ammo hoarding when I get home.

Bye bye mail order ammo sales. Hello (even more) ridiculous ammo prices at the local dealers.

Eventually they will make it a crime to "import" ammo into CA and DOJ will start harassing NV & AZ ammo sellers to check ID and not sell to CA residents.

Need to read the details and see if this affect reloading components.
If not, they'll get to that eventually as well.

This seems similar to AB2714 from last session, I think. The Governor vetoed it, I believe.

Start writing letters, chaps.

Yes start making noise. This is an outrage.

If anyone has addresses or a template letter post it up.

Yes, he did. One reason he vetoed it was because he thought it would interfere with legitimate business. I think he will veto this one too if it makes it to his desk, and I imagine it will.
