Default OR CHL for non resident

Does anyone here have any experience with Oregon CHL process? I have my UT class on Sat. but OR does not recognize UT? I will be spending a lot of time in OR for work so I would like to pick tis one up as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
SM

You must apply in person at one of their county Sheriff offices. They only issue to residents of neighboring states (CA, for example). I believe it is pretty straightforward.

There was a post about this in September, never did come up with an answer though. http://www.calccw.com/Forums/general...regon-chl.html

Do your research. There is a CCW site up there to help. I think the most important part is applying in the right county because most won't issue to out of state residents. But one of them is more pro firearm and will.

If I remember correctly, Oregon only used to issue to non residents who lived in a county adjacent to Oregon. Don't know if that is still the case.

From what I understand, there are counties that are essentially shall-issue if you live in a county directly opposite the state line. Otherwise, the Sheriffs can only issue (on a "may-issue" basis) to residents of states that are directly adjacent to Oregon. I have relatives that live in Oregon that I occasionally visit. I may look into getting a CCW for Oregon... but I'm in no hurry right now.

That's it. I knew it was something like that.

Anyone have experience with applying via Linn or Jackson county?

I really have a concern with being rejected, and having to disclose the rejection on future renewals in other states for which I'm already licensed.

You can always call and ask about their policy before applying. That solves the problem of denial.

If you're not a resident, I think you can equate it to California style CCW issuance i.e. "Why do you need one", "We don't issue", etc. Some counties will issue to out-of-staters, some won't. Some probably have no idea that they can. IIRC you can apply in any county as a non resident (but you're only eligible if you're a resident of a bordering state), so pick carefully.

This is really a topic for the Oregon board. They're the ones that know the process and which counties will issue, and which ones will not.
